KoL: Not the Same

As anyone who knows me knows, I like to play the online game The Kingdom of Loathing. For years, it's had a great community, good content, and a stable set of gameplay mechanics.

However, since the advent of NS13, things have just seemed to shoot straight downhill. The clan I used to be a part of, the KoL Addicts, was once recognized as a safe haven for newbies. People respected each other, they were responsible, and they had fun. But when the clan leader quit, the place seemed to have drastically changed, with newbies running amok in chat, and far too many people becoming officers.

The general community itself, as well, was full of mature members. However, more and more it seems like it's simply becoming the migrating place for the Runescape dickheads. When I spoiled content in chat without realizing it, instead of people politely pointing out my mistake, they were complete dicks about it.

And there's the gameplay mechanics. Quests are so freaking long, it takes a month for hardcore players to finish the game and "ascend", whereas it used to be less than a day! It's still funny, but so much effort has to be put into it now, it doesn't seem worth it. I'm not going into details about it, but still... It all seems to have become broken. And I have no solutions to propose for it.

This all makes me sad... The game's community used to be a fun, safe place for me to hang out with mature, respectable people with senses of humor. Now... it's nothing but a noob training ground.

monday, kol, kindgom of loathing
