Ну, лопасти винтов лежат по потоку, так что, видимо, все же предполагалось передвижение на реактивных...

С одной стороны, понятно, почему не подвесили между родным движком и фюзеляжем: там шасси. С другой, если эксперименты именно с реактивными, то на таком плече и момент будет о-го-го. И ай-яй-яй, в случае проблем с ними.

Нет, как наземный испытательный стенд использовали.

"This aircraft was delivered to the US Army in November 1964, s/n 63-13128, and struck off charge December 1976. It was acquired as a surplus aircraft by the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics (PIA). The plane was used for seven years as an instructional airframe in several aircraft maintenance and avionics courses.

In the early eighties six Westinghouse J34 jet engines were obtained by PIA. To operate the jet engines the Mohawk was chosen as an engine test stand and fitted with two jet engines under the wing next to the original two Lycoming T53 turboprops. In 1985 the conversion was ready and this Mohawk became the only four-engined aircraft of the type with all engines operational, although the aircraft never left the ground in this configuration. The aircraft was sold several years ago, without the jet engines.

Restored to the original OV-1A configuration, it was registered as N87864, and is now on loan to the American Wings Air Museum at Anoka, Minnesota."
