More Than Meets the "i"

"...perhaps our individualistic, workaholic society would be more rooted in community and quality and less focused on money and success if we each thought of ourselves as a small “i” with a sweet little dot."

-- Caroline Winter, "Me, Myself and I" in New York Times Magazine

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but i have been deliberately using a lowercase "i" in my (non-work-related) writing for some time. I don't remember when it started, but one day it just struck me that the capital "I" we so commonly use is rooted in nothing more than tradition. Why capitalize the "i"? It's not like we write double-capital ME's or hubristic MINE's. Although perhaps i've now given some people out there an idea...

Also, to be perfectly honest, it is quite annoying to have to use the SHIFT key to type "i" -- often it disrupts your typing flow! So maybe i i'm simply being lazy, but i like my "i" lowercase. You can call this my iBlog.
