I really really really should be doing my stamps for history and analysis of design. I really should. I will enjoy it once I start (because it's surrealism..who doesn't love putting a pen to paper and letting their subconscious take over?) so I decided that once I finishing putting down a few meaningless thoughts/sentiments/whatnot I would get started.
Today ruled! I did my Genghis Khan picture for Graphic Illustration. If you look at Shepard Fairey's work, it is pretty much the same idea of what I did. I did Genghis as a grizzly bear roaring (it was deliciously terrifying) (BTW: I wish this TV show would stop fucking saying 'random'. I hate that word..so much) with a helmet on. I placed it on a background of wallpaper with xeroxes of the Great Wall of China on it and some soldiers riding into battle. The critique was totally a self-esteem booster. I chose black to green to white stepping. It sounds odd but it turned out awesome (I swear I'm not trying to toot my own horn here..I wouldn't even be saying half of this shit if it hadn't been for the comments I had received that boosted my confidence.). The wall paper was a deep gold/orange/brown. Even though warms come forward, the bear really popped. There are 30 people totally right now that just completed this same project for a company near us. Only 6 will be picked. The reason I'm so pumped is because my professor said that it was something they might pick. I know, 'might'. But still I felt so happy because his own artwork rules and for him to say that felt like such a complement. He also didn't say that about anyone else's. that is not to say that there weren't some good ones. There were definitely a handful of just simply AMAZING pieces. I love the art school environment! We get so excited about each others stuff. It is so encouraging and inspiring. We feed off of each other in the best way possible. Aaah, I love art school.
Going to my internship in less than a month! So excited. I really need to order my plane ticket..hmm...
Better get to the stamps.
Cheers.
