Alex Chilton died, only 59. He was one of those artists who you think hardly anyone has heard of (outside those who, like me, were full on hard core alternative music posers in the 80s), but then you discover actually heaps of people love. We played Big Stars "When My Baby's Beside Me" at our wedding. I've got all the Big Star albums, and some Alex Chilton solo stuff. And the song "Alex Chilton" by the Replacements -- not only did he write great songs, he was such an inspiring musician that great songs were written about him.
I got to see him play live once. He was great. I have an autographed poster.
And he's gone.
