I've been reading The Romance of the Three Kingdoms (in English translation. The Moss Roberts translation, for those who care), the 14th Century Chinese classic. I love the start.
Here begins our tale. The Empire, long divided, must unite; long united, must divide. Thus it has ever been.
I love that sense of fatalism and sense of the big picture about Chinese history.
ETA Due to being an idiot, I have two copies of Volume 1 (and no copies of Volume 2). If you think you would be able to provide a home for this spare copy, let me know. It is moderately expensive and hard to get, and also not necessarily an easy read for those used to modern novels, so I'd like it to go an appreciative home.
