Strangecreature's Excellent Adventure: Final Day!

Jun 06, 2010 22:53

I tried very hard to make some sort of sense of this final batch of nonsense, but we spent about half of the time getting remarkably lost every time that we stepped into a building and the other half going loopy with the heat as we slogged down the Vegas strip by foot. Oh my achin' feet!

So first we made the unexpectedly long drive back from the Grand Canyon into Vegas...

We wandered around in the desert looking for snakes after the run-in the previous day, because apparently we're insane. All we saw were a bunch more of my little hench-lizards.

Big treeeees! This one had a funny haircut.

I HUGZ U NAO, CACTUS!

MAYBE A LEETLE GROPIN'? (Karma instantly got me after this, since I really did wind up touching something weird that made my one hand and arm break out in a rash. *facepalm* Don't be gropin' the wildlife!)

And then we arrived! :-DDD

Trump Tower! Tower of Trumpness! It's very shiny, much like everything in Vegas.

The Stratosphere! It is tall and stylish and awesome, and therefore was obviously named after stratospherique!

There's a place called Fashion Show Drive! It has a big unidentifiable THING on top of the building there that kind of gave me the urge to bust out some "Oh, the humanity!"s. At this point, I was already completely baffled.

*is baffled* Las Vegas, you are SO STRANGE and surreal!

This picture is entirely indoors. ENTIRELY. INDOORS. The sky is a lie! The lake is a fake!

BOATS INDOORS. At The Venetian, if you're currently making a 'places to visit' list. *g*

BOATS ALSO OUTDOORS. We are very bad at the whole 'Facebook-angle photo' thing.

And we aren't getting better with practice either! X-D

Dad meets some statues of the Blue Man Group. Promptly attempts to commit Grand Theft Drumstick.

Megan meets Indiana Jones!!! Promptly realizes she's a little too short to be a wise-cracking sidekick for ass-kicking archaeologists, even if our outfits look like we've coordinated beforehand. Dreams = CRUSHED.

This guy wanted me to come over and be his sidekick though! I... am shy about people in masks and yelped "Not me!" when he started pointing at me and kinda hid behind my dad. X-D

Elvis is probably jealous that his outfit doesn't include a sun umbrella...

Eiffel Tower, whut! (And, yes, I was pretty much sitting on the sidewalk to get this shot. And then a guy dressed as Jesus walked behind me. *hands* VEGAS.)

We kept having to pop into hotel casinos to cool off, but neither of us could figure out how the gambling machines worked, so we mostly wandered around watching other people play. For we are damn cool.

PANDA PAWS UP, YO!

I... truly can't remember if I was trying to be Cher, or Julius Cesaer in this picture. Either way, I was failing pretty spectacularly!

Ocean's Eleven-ing it up at the Bellagio! Alas, the trademark fountain was off that early in the day.

The Luxor was totally my favourite, both for the weird architecture inside and the overall theme.

Yes, Megan, it is a big triangle! Good job! My only issue with the Luxor was its resident attraction...

*does not want to experience Criss Angel today* I was not-so-secretly terrified that he'd be, like, lurking around behind a pillar and leap out to do aggressive shirtless card tricks at me or something. X-D

In conclusion: Las Vegas is WEIRD and SURREAL and BLURRY, although that last may have been from vacation-exhaustion and heat at that point. *g* It was like somebody gave the West Edmonton Mall people an entire city and let them go wild. It is, essentially, the polar opposite of the Grand Canyon. In Vegas, they took a desert and aggressively shaped it into something entirely man-made. At the Grand Canyon, nature is the boss and the humans stop where the earth tells them to stop. Certainly makes a neat trip going right from one to the other!

Farewell, Las Vegas! You were fun too and I wish we had a bit more time there! :-D

grand canyon trip, pics, vacation, there ain't no sanity clause!
