Fic: Fishsticks' Theory of Portable Sunshine

Jan 31, 2009 20:52

Posting on a weekend and late at night should pretty much ensure that nobody is around to read this, eh? :-D My timing needs work. Ah, well... time for fun with minor characters ( Read more... )

Awww. For some reason around the third paragraph or so I started playing host to the heart-thumping assumption that Sol was an undercover agent of the Hand, and that lent a bizarre cast to this for a while. :)

That... would've been pretty cool. Hee! (Alas, by the time the NaNo story rolls around, Fisher has gotten himself dead and Sol has turned into somebody's geeky supervisor.)

Thanks so much for reading, and for the icon inspiration! :-D

Well that's very careless of him. SILLY FISHER. Getting yourself dead like that!

:P You talk a lot about your writing and you're so enthusiastic about it that it's hard NOT to be greedily pawing over the bits you actually post.

The 'throw yourself recklessly at the universe and hope to land on your feet' lifestyle does not work out for the poor boy, alas.

Aw!! I should make it a goal to actually re-write and post some of the story proper in my lifetime, eh? You made it look so easy, dammit. *g*

It rarely does. And yet somehow for some people it's wildly successful. I wonder if there's a formula.

I make *what* look so easy? The rewriting that I never fucking do?

If there is, I certainly haven't figured it out. (Especially not if I'm authoring the story, in which case the uber-careful paranoid characters are killed off with equal impunity...)

Ha! You got yours to a place where it was entirely postable and didn't include pages that meandered off talking about sweaters and politics. So then I started thinking "Well, hers is about five times longer and more complex than mine, so this should be no problem at all!" and was subsequently lured into madness. :-D

"Because I feel like it", then? Seems as good a formula as any!

BULLSHIT "POSTABLE". Ahem.

didn't include pages that meandered off talking about sweaters and politics

Oh I beg to differ. :P

Hahah. Well, I'm glad you felt compelled to try. How is it going?

It concerns me that the universe is using 'Because I said so!' mom-logic...

Oh hush, you! It doesn't massively contradict itself, the plot's always moving in a forward direction, and you don't change people's names halfway through on a whim. To me, that's a damn fine draft.

How is it going?

In my head, it is glorious and all worked out in loving detail. On paper... um. I need a lot more free time or will power or both. :-D

don't all universes? I mean, how the hell else does gravity work? "Why does mass attract mass?" / "BECAUSE I SAID SO."

:P But that's just basic plotting! There is nothing special about that.

In my head, it is glorious and all worked out in loving detail.

OH HO. I know that feeling. And sadly I am now too drunk to continue writing.
