I knew that there there was only so much I could conceal the impending abduction, since I'd need to set it up a little. As for Johnny trusting Jayne, it all depends on how he views the whole thing, and how much of it he remembers. He might think it was a random thing. But obviously, if he's meant to talk to the pollinators, then he'd have to know that it was a set-up. Unless they only intend him to remember it subconsciously. Many possibilities here.
Since things are changing with the plan already, it is likely that the aliens will shift focus. Their marriage system isn't so easily applied to sims, and they're seeing the flaw in that plan. The hybrids might not relate to the aliens as any sort of authority. They're considering other options.
Johnny is pretty peaceful, but he does have a bit of a temper too. Just think about how he deals with Tank.
There's sure to be some conflict on P.T.'s side of this, when he finds out. If he finds out. I haven't fully worked out Johnny's reaction, but I know that he has tendencies towards closing himself off and carrying the weight of things without worrying anyone else with them. But he can only do that for so long, and he might want some answers from his father.
It's fun to use those replacement P.T.s as characters. It's hard to resist, since they're there in my game as packaged characters. I have the original default P.T. too, and he's got a bit of a story behind him. We'll get to that.
You mean Jayne's other parent, right? I thought it was No. 14 (the red head), but I think I was wrong. I lost Jayne's alien parent data when I switched out the default P.T.s at one point, so I can't be sure. I took another close look at them, and I think it's actually the black-haired P.T., No. ?. I know it was one of the "female" P.T.s, and she looks more like that one in the eyes. When I created a couple of those photos of Johnny imagining his future a while back, all of Jayne and Johnny's children had black hair, so that supports my theory.
There's a lot to consider in with the Ripp/Ophelia thing. It's a relationship that I have to keep analyzing all of the time. Since we've jumped the fence with them kissing, I can admit that I didn't intentionally intend for this to happen at this point in the story, but it just seemed like it would. If they held off much longer, I don't think I'd really believe it. I did always intend for something to happen between them, at some point, but the ultimate outcome of this love triangle has never really been set in stone (or, it has, but I keep changing it).
I'm very interested to see that people are having polarized reactions to this interact between them. With Johnny factored it, it's a very complicated situation, so I'm not surprised. Personally, I'm all for them as a pair, whether it works out or not. I think they balance each other out. Ophelia has the potential to bring out the best in Ripp, and he brightens her up and makes her laugh.
But then there's Johnny. Poor overworked, over-pressured, abducted Johnny. It's been a rough one for him, and it will only add to it when he finds out about Ripp and Phi. And let's face it, he's definitely going to come home to a bit of a Goldilocks and the Three Bears situation. Ripp's not known to be an early riser.
I'm finding your readers' reactions to Ripp/Phi really interesting, too. Me, I see it as practically inevitable that Ripp and Phi at least acknowledge their attraction and love for each other. It's not that Phi has no self-control, as someone said. And we've seen that Ripp actually does have a great deal of will power. But the kiss seems so natural, given their emotions and the situation. I'm glad they didn't go further this time, but I won't blame them a bit if they do, later.
But then I may have a more forgiving attitude than some people. I can understand loving more than one person at the same time. I can even understand taking it further, because I've been there myself. On the other hand, I know a lot of people have strong feelings about loyalty and fidelity, and that's probably where a lot of the reactions come from. Neither viewpoint is wrong, they're just different (though I personally think a lot of guilt and hang-ups come out of refusing to acknowledge that we're all imperfect beings; we have emotions that are sometimes messy and can't be fit into an inflexible moral framework).
I see this in the comments of a webcomic I read, Rene Engström's excellent "Anders Loves Maria." All the main characters have flaws, they all make mistakes and sometimes act in reprehensible ways -- but I have compassion for all of them, and I think the author does, too. Some of her readers react very strongly, though. "Maria is such a bitch!" "Anders is a cheating asshole!" "I hate that crazy slut Tina!" But those comments come out of a place of honesty, too, in their way. Maybe those people have had a boyfriend that cheated, or a girlfriend that acted irrational or sided with her family against them; the story hits them emotionally and their gut reaction comes out in their response. It's got to be somewhat gratifying as an author to provoke strong reactions, though it might make you feel defensive of your characters. (Rene once posted a comic response to an accusation that none of her characters had any redeeming values: she showed Anders rescuing a spider and putting it outside, even though it gave him the shudders.)
But enough of that. ^_^
Yes, I did mean Jayne's other parent. That was just a name slip. I think you're right, the black haired PT's eyes resemble Jayne's more than the redhead's. The redhead throws kids with more slanted eyes (Spud is one of hers).
I haven't forgotten Johnny's enduring anger for Tank, no. I can't really see him having that level of anger for Jayne, but definitely he has a right to be upset. And if I were him I would never be able to trust her.
Definitely looking forward to what happens next! And to find out if Johnny has a podling in the oven or not! ^_^
Just wanted to butt in here and say that I agree 100% with you on the Ripp and Ophelia angle. They bring out the best in each other. Johnny could always stay with Jayne. :P
