I'm home sick today, so I've been doing a little writing. It's also been snowing for the first time this year, and the ground is all white outside. It's really sort of nice in a slushy, dreary sort of way. I love how snow brightens things up. We really need it this time of year.
Anyway, back to the drabble. This will probably end up in the next update, more or less. It takes place when Bottom is picking up Vidcund from the train. He flew first, then took a train, to be exact. You do not visit Veronaville from Strangetown on a whim (which has always been my issue with the merged hoods and how easily the various townsfolk can mingle, but now I'm getting off topic again...).
"I'm sorry I wasn't completely forthcoming about the faery thing," Bottom said, "but it's so distracting, and I wanted to talk shop with you about plants instead."
"It's okay. I understand."
"Well you're here now. Feel like running back to Strangetown?"
He shook his head. "That'd be pretty hypocritical of me."
"How's that?"
"Well, my family is half alien. Half half alien, that is, not full alien. And we even have one of those."
"Really..."
"Yes. My own children are also half alien."
"Oh, you have children, do you? Then you'll fit right in with us. My parents have quite the brood."
"I come from a large family too. I'm sure I'll feel right at home."
"So who..." Bottom considered how best to word her question. "I mean, does the mother of your children live with you?"
"Well, no. Actually, I'd be more like the mother in this situation. I gave birth to them."
"You gave birth to them?!"
"Yeah."
"Get out of town!"
Vidcund glanced at his watch. "Okay, but the next train doesn't arrive for four hours."
Bottom smacked him in the arm. "Come on. Titania's cooking supper for us all tonight. My older brother and his fiance will be there too. You'll get to meet them all."
"After you," he said, gesturing towards the exit.
"Then tomorrow, Oberon will take us to the forest. You're going to love it." She reached for one of his bags, smiling broadly. "Here, let me get that for you."
Vidcund thought she had one of the prettiest, off-centre, sort of crooked smiles he'd ever seen. He couldn't help but smile back.
