Went to the Odd Man Out tour in Columbus on Thursday night, with Ben Lee, Ben Folds, and most importantly, Rufus Wainwright. It was a darn good concert, even if Rufus went all queer country and only played one of my favorite songs. I had listened to a bit of Ben Folds to familiarize myself with his music before hand, and after going to the concert, it only made me like his stuff even more. His song "Landed" is the best. Finally, a piano-playin' modern rocker with a serious Elton John influence.
Rufus joined him on stage for "Careless Whisper" by Wham! Oh, that was nice. After Ben Folds was done with his set, the crowd o' freaks and carefully put-together dishevelledness thinned out, the stars and moon appeared, and then Rufus was onstage. He's so adorable, and gay, and adorably gay I just wanna take him home with me. He did Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah", which he was made to sing. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. And of course he did "Beautiful Child" which is like my most favorite song evar, so I was insanely happy.
I think the best part of the day was walking around the Arena District, feeling like one with the heartbeat of Columbus and dodging the nearly overwhelming hordes of Pentecostal Christians attending the revival at Nationwide Arena. It pleased me to no end to sit on the patio of the Frog Bear Wild Boar bar, drinking my beer, smoking my cigarettes, and enjoying the afternoon with my lesbian lover. Sinning is so much fun.
