OK, I started swimming, so my spirits are a little better; my range of motion is comparatively great. But Larson's coming on Wednesday (his birthday! the day after he finally takes his boards!) so it's been a frantic rush to get my appellate brief scratched out in time to turn in as a rough draft on Thursday, a little ahead of schedule so I can spend time with Larson and just worry about revising things for next week. And yet, despite my best intentions, I'm only 7 out of 25 pages of chicken scratch. I don't really know what I'm doing or how I'm organizing everything, but I hope I'm starting to hit my stride (a little bit). In the end my drafts take about 3 or 4 revisions to start looking like good, thorough arguments; I never put enough effort into the first one in order to meet deadlines. And I always waste two or three hours every night digesting and resting; I can never work work work. Volume-wise, college was kind of nothing compared to this, and I still feel behind. But that's the nature of this place.

I wonder if I should commit myself to brief writing next fall for a government agency... I don't hate it, but I don't love it, and the quality of my work product on first brush is never good -- it always takes about 2 more tries to get things looking decent. But I think I could learn a lot.

When spring break starts I think I'm going to make myself a hoop.

There's no one here to talk to me about music these days so I've just been listening to last.fm. I realized its suggestion engine is a lot better than Pandora's. I know I'm late on the trend train. It's dry as a desert here for people who like music.

If I can just get better technique and figure out the fucking breathing on the front crawl I might look forward to training for the PGH triathlon... in 2011! Enough time to figure out how to swim and save up to buy a lighter bike. And I'm planning on races in the fall already, damnit, maybe in Boulder (I've never been there.)
