New Who 6.7: A Good Man Goes To War

I think my overall reaction to that was that I really enjoyed almost every individual bit of it, but found the whole slightly underwhelming nonetheless. I think that's basically for the same reasons as after The End of Time part 1, when I felt much the same - too many characters, many of them new, competing for attention, and too much emphasis on ( Read more... )

Also rather a pity that one half of the Thin / Fat gay married Anglican marines had to die (or at least be transformed into a headless monk, which is more or less the same thing), tooI sort of saw that as allegory; blind/extremist faith leading to the death of a gay marriage being allegorical to religious extremists/fundies who are against gays and gay marriage on religious grounds ( ... )

;ve just seen it a week after everyone else and feel quite deluged with plot! But yes am actually most confused about *why was Rory dressed as a Roman*! Yes he's very cool and has the right nose but that's not enough!!

PS: Clearly the answer to my breastfeeding issues is a Sontaran wet-nurse. If only!

I didn't anticipate sprog turning to Flesh at all & was q horrified. But isn;t it a bit of a turn off for the Dr? He sort of treats Amy as a grandaughter so it's like shagging yr great grand daughter? Alternately Amy fancies him so he's shagging the daughter of someone who inappropriately fancies him? Neitrher seems sexy/teatime tv to me..

I liked the magnificent sevenish gathering of his troops part although in the end they mostly seemed redundant. Strax was great as you said.

Yeah, I'm a bit bemused about that whole end fight... why did the headless monks attack them? They only killed one sontaran so I would assume that they didn't expect to win the fight and there was nothing to actually capture since the baby wasn't real...

I would guess that almost everyone on the base was not in on the switch. If they had been then the soldier who defected would have told them. I guess for the most effective diversion you get the doctor to think "the problem I am solving is fighting a bunch of soldiers" when he should have been thinking "the problem I am solving is finding a missing baby". If people are there to be a distraction and get killed then the last thing you do is tell them.

Bonus points for the sontarian nurse.....

I loved it - and the whole 'is this who you want to be?' aspect was brilliant.

I did love the episode and didn't see the river song reveal coming at all - I do largely avoid any internet speculation more involved than your LJ posts though. I am not sure about the whole "revelations so awesome and game-changing that they require a mid-season hiatus while we jump up and down madly waiting for the pay-off". I'm not sure I've ever really jumped up and down like that. I have to admit I did initially think the end of last episode was the mid season cliffhanger since that was much more the sort of thing that I'd expect for the anticipation. I will admit to being quite glad about it not being a cliff hangery ending though ( ... )

I thought the same about the "fall" part. There was an oops but not a fall. Maybe that part is to come.
