What is the first memory you have of having a sense of being in your integrity?

i just remembered two things:
one: taking one (3 actually)  for the team.   In 7th grade PE, Renee Pullen thought it would be funny to all act like Ms. Romero, our PE coach by mimicking her mannerisms of clapping our hands together and saying "AAHHH..." which was usually ( Read more... )

I think of integrity a bit differently. I hear honesty in this post. I have memories of honesty that go far back. I had a hard time lying as a kid and as a teen out of guilt. I told white lies and some more blatant ones as a teen out of a need to escape. My most honest moments were when being asked if I was planning to kill myself. Those are my earliest memories of being honest, especially in the face of fear.

Integrity, for me, is about being my word. What I say is what is so. If I commit to being somewhere at a certain time, I am there. If I say I am honest, I am honest. If I say I am the walrus, coo coo cachoo, I am the walrus..you get the idea :P

My earliest memories of that were when I was about 9 or so. My friend and I were swimming in a pool on this vacation that including a lot of family and business friends of our parents. In the pool, this guy (in his 20's perhaps) was splashing my friend and I in the pool and my friend was getting progressively upset to the point of tears. I felt this immediate urge to defend her. Now, while I never spoke the words "I will defnd you", I was her friend and in the being of her friend, it included support her. So, when the guy swam underneath us, I took my hand, positions my nails on his back as he swam beneath me, and dug my nails into his back creating a lovely four finger nail scrath line down his back.
