Breaking News:
I landed at Ben Gurion International Airport earlier today in Tel Aviv, Israel. I am now currently writing from Momo's Hostel about a three blocks from the Mediterranean Coast. Yes, I have made it to the Middle East finally for the first time in my life. The first thing I did after taking public transportation to the city center, was sleep throughout the beautiful afternoon because I hadn't done any truly satisfying sleep on the two flights that took me here. The flight was as interesting as I expected it to be. I sat next to a rabbi, who I talked Middle Eastern politics with briefly and I seemed to be just one of the few Jews on-board as dozens of orthodox got out of their seats to stand up and pray from time to time. Earlier, while getting a standby ticket in New York, I had to endure some intense questioning as to why I was going by myslef to Israel and why I am only bringing one bag. One gate agent asked me, "Why Israel? Why not Thailand?!" I have to get used to tough security form now on.
Although is the Shabbat (the sabbath) here in Tel Aviv, it is a largely secular city and that means there are still things open tonight and I am about to head and explore.
It is amazing to think that I have made it to the most important region in world history that is still as relevant as it was thousands of years ago... the adventure begins.....
