~Twentieth Act~

May 06, 2010 18:39

I find myself now with a rare window of freedom. Fran has taken a stroll in the Woods (she's decidedly frazzled and was in need of a break), Albanion is chained to his desk upstairs studying for his exams (he is grounded for causing a ruckus at school so studying is about all Fran is letting him do) and Violet is down for a nap, so it's just me and ( Read more... )

Of course our reunion hasn't happened yet! They wanted to hold it on the day we graduated, so I believe it's the 22nd, if I'm remembering things correctly.
Your Hook costume? Surely you must be joking.

I have a question for you regarding adoption of children, if you know anything about it from any of your Pre-Law classes. If you don't, that's all right, I'll keep on searching.

Let's be honest, Luxord, I'm not joking. I'm deadly serious. I wouldn't joke about such a thing. Besides, why take such an occasion so seriously? Why not have fun with it?

Adopting children? Fire away. I know a thing or two.

I can't believe this. Are you including the moustache and wig as well, or just the coat and hat?
I know I will enjoy myself, hopefully, so Aeris and I are ordering a taxi to and from so we're not behind the wheel. Would you like to join us?

I don't really know where to begin. Do they favour older couples, younger ones, couples with children, or anything like that? I know there is at least some sort of interview process, but what does it all entail?

Just the coat and hat. I want people to know it's actually me under there. How else will I convey my being a pirate? I dress rather casually (fashionably casual), so no one would really know. The costume will be perfect!

They're more inclined towards young couples; well, younger couples, at least. An interview would merely serve to gauge your suitability to serve as a foster family. It will most likely include a full background check. They can't just offer children to any old family, so they'll need to know if there's any reason to suspect that a child would be in danger in your care.

True, although is that something you're wanting to admit to peers who might possibly turn you in? I know I certainly don't trust a few of them any longer.
I wouldn't quite call that casual. Our sense of casual has always been somewhat skewed, after all. Was it you who won "Best Dressed" or I?

Yes, I suppose we will have to go through the interview process, and despite my past transgressions, I've never had anything put on my record. Unless Aeris is hiding some horrible secret from me that involves a slew of dead bodies, I believe we'll be all right on the background check.
What about the child? If there's one that I know of that has grown on us considerably, and if we do pass the background checks and the interview, do we have to be matched with one or can we state our specific preference?

They don't know where I'm from now, do they? And they know me as Ffamran and not Balthier. Unless they did some extensive research, they wouldn't be able to turn me in. Besides, I can go through enough legal loopholes to protect myself from any extradition order. Why do you think I'm studying Law ( ... )

True, you should be fine, but...well, you're you, you'll get yourself out of any situation you find yourself in.

I feel rather insulted right now. I remember my fashion sense in high school being rather similar to what it is now. I honestly cannot recall wearing a pair of jeans in my life.

I've never been arrested, though, that's the thing. I've spent quite a few nights in a jail cell for being drunk, but that was when I was idiotic. I still have a very substantial amount from the tournament, but I'm hesitant to use it, and I won't for that purpose.
That's good, then. Aeris and I aren't religious at all, and I believe we have a very stable environment. We certainly have an extra room that we've done absolutely nothing with yet, too.

Yes, I never thought I would be able to, but...she's grown on me. She runs to me for comfort and support, and...
She calls me Papa sometimes, and I have to remind her that I'm not.

Always have, always will. I'm just that kind of guy~

I think you can see where I'm going with this, can't you? I need not say any more... :P

You may want to watch that. Any history of alcohol problems could cause a problem in the adoption process. You may have to go through a probationary period so that the state can be sure that you're not prone to any relapsing. That's usually where you spend a week with the child to see how it all goes and then some evaluations and then they'll make a decision on whether you can adopt. I'd be honest about those kinds of things, though; if they find out later, they could take the child away. It's not too much to suffer through a probation as opposed to the possibility of losing the child.

That's incredibly sweet, Luxord. Who knew you were so soft?

Your silver tongue got us out of quite a few sticky situations, as I recall.

You're horrible, do you know that?

Yes, I thought I would have to...I hope it doesn't end up being the one thing that would keep us from adopting her; I'd never forgive myself.

I don't know, but she's, well, different. Special. There's something about her that sets her apart from the rest, and just makes me feel like...like a father, I suppose.

But of course. It's what I was best at. Unfortunately for him, that's one thing Albanion didn't inherit from me!

Really? Well, never knew that... :P

If you can prove that you won't relapse and that you have lead a responsible lifestyle for long enough, there shouldn't be anything to really stop you from adopting her.

That's perfect... I do hope you end up succeeding...

He hasn't? Shame, that really came in handy at times. He's resourceful, though, he'll find some way out of trouble if he wants to.

Of course not. You're worse than Narcissus, you know.

Hopefully we can. Since I returned home, I haven't blacked out a single time, and I quit all other substance use. I wasn't jailed for being drunk in public since I was...22, I believe, either.

As do I. You saw her at our last rehearsal, I think it would break all three hearts if we couldn't adopt her.
