Mom update

Thanks for everyone's support.

It appears that the situation is worse than we thought.  My mom has contracted a rare blood disease (what an interesting word: dis-ease) the name of which I forget.  She will be in the hospital for some time while the doctors scrub her blood (her white cels are not functioning) and try to get her platelettes going.

The doctors say the procedure is successful 90% of the time.  Pretty good odds, I'd play those.  But the deal is, if this works then we move on to the next problem.  If not.... then she has only days.

Going to visit her today.  She may not be able to talk, and she's drifting in and out of consciousness, but I hope she at least knows I'm there.  I just feel so... helpless... ineffective.

Well, the good news is her kidney is fine.  It's everything else that seems to have gone awry.  Again, none of this has anything to do with the renal cancer.  So, I'm considering her a "cancer survivor".  So there.
