Jake drove out to the construction yard and parked by the trailer. He hopped out and went up, knocking as he walked in. Aaron looked up from the desk and grinned. He was wearing jeans and a wifebeater. He was also sweaty and dirty. Jake shook his head with a slight laugh.
"Dude. When they put you in charge of a job...you realize you don't hafta go out there and work, right?
Aaron shrugged and wiped his arm across his forehead, then got up to grab his button down shirt to throw on. "And leave it all up to those idiots? There's a reason I'm the best."
Jake raised his eyes and gave Aaron a disbelieving shake of the head. "You're so damn full of yourself."
"And that's new how?" Aaron started buttoning his shirt. "So what's up? Were we supposed to meet for lunch?"
"Nah, just hopin' you had some time to talk."
Aaron raised a brow. "I didn't do it."
Jake smirked and plopped down on the ratty couch that sat in the office. "You mean her?"
"Well...that ain't too specific. Who's the her?" Aaron grinned.
"Gracie's sister?"
Aaron paused for a moment, a brief look of pleasure crossing his face, then he bit his smiling lip. "Oh. I definitely did her. Over and over."
Jake's hand hit his eyes and he groaned softly. "Don't wanna hear."
"That girl is smokin', Pan. I get revved up just thinkin' about-"
"'ey! My fiancee's sister!"
"She's not your sister," Aaron pointed out with an eyeroll. "'sides, if they're sisters....good chance Grace is just as much a great lay as baby sis."
"Aaron!" Now Jake was leaning forward with a slight glare. "Shut the hell up about Grace."
"Just sayin'." Aaron shrugged.
"What're you doin' with her?" Jake asked seriously.
Aaron plopped down in a chair and smirked. "Just about everything."
Jake groaned. "Dude. You know what I mean. Can you be serious for five seconds?"
"What do you want from me? Are we gonna start holdin' hands and makin' gooey eye across the table like you and Grace? Fuck no. We're just havin' some fun."
"And does she know that?"
"Yeah. Great thing about that girl...she knows how to just have fun, she's sexy, and she ain't clingy."
"How many times've you seen her?"
"Not much, but...I can tell from things we've talked about."
"And what if that changes? What if you...I don't know...slip up and let her see you're a good guy? What if all the non-committal sex starts to mean somethin' more to her? You gonna ditch her like all the others? Cause the others, man? You don't hafta see them anymore. Felicity is gonna be my sister-in-law. Won't be so cut and dry."
"You over think too much, Pan." Aaron rolled his eyes. "We're just...bein' friendly."
"And I'm not gonna tell you what to do, but I am gonna say be careful, alright? If no other reason than Gracie's ready to drop kick your ass if you fuck up, and I've been tryin' to vouch for you."
"So that's what this is about? Your woman doesn't want me bangin' her lil sis? Sent you to talk to me?"
"No. I decided that on my own, because I know you Aaron. And I know you ain't the piece of shit so many women end up thinkin' you are. I'd kinda like my wife to see that, too, since I plan on both of you bein' in my life for a very long time."
Aaron sighed. "Yeah, yeah. I'll be careful."
"I'm serious. If things get shaky, you let her down easy and get the hell out. If she kicks you to the curb? No anger, no temper tantrum...you just walk out."
"Psh, I don't have temper-" Jake gave him another brow raise and Aaron sighed. "Yeah, yeah. Get the hell out. Got it."
"Good." Jake got to his feet.
"That it, old man?" Aaron smirked.
"Fuck off," Jake said with an eyeroll, but slight smile.
"Oh, will do. Soon as I call Felicity." Aaron gave a playful grin. "Off again and again."
"I don't wanna hear!" Jake said, pulling the door open.
Aaron laughed as Jake headed out, and called after him, "She's the kinda girl that'll let me lean her over my bike, if ya know what I mean."
Jake shook his head and kept walking, letting the door close behind him. He really wasn't reassured at all, but he could hope. It scared him, though, because he loved Grace, but at the same time Jake was his best friend. Family. He didn't know how the hell he'd deal if anything screwed that up and it came down to one another. It was an impossible thought, really.
