Every feeling that I get
But I haven't missed you yet.

Finally, weaned off of "Bat Boy." For the moment, anyway.

You know how there's this thing that happens sometimes in the life of a fangirl? It's a rare moment, at least for me, and usually an unexpected one. You're bored ( Read more... )

Oh, great, you're now more properly spoiled for that show than I am. *didn't actually read the whole essay, for that reason* Yeah, five episodes isn't much to get an impression. It was at a really interesting part right before the DVD finally ground to a halt. The longer I have to wait, the more I'm getting spoiled.

I think you tend to like stuff that's *actually good*, whereas I...um, not necessarily. I have my funny little fetishes that lead me in strange directions. Anyway, I get the feeling that GS and GSD fall into the guilty pleasure category of fandom. There are, um, at least two Star Wars twists, one of which involves cloning, lots of OMG My Best Friend is Also My Worst Enemy angst, and...from what I've heard, the show takes itself too seriously, with the angst and trauma and people screaming at each other about the nature of justice from inside their giant mecha when they fight. And by the way, nuclear bombing is not nice.

But it's got a huge cast, trauma, lots of trivia, and the Designated Object of Obsession. About which, I usually can't help who my favorite characters are. Sometimes I realize it halfway through the show and start wondering when that happened, and why I went and fell for such a bundle of issues.

In Yzak's case, I've always had a thing for the ones who go into screaming rages against the heroes. I actually empathize with that. Which might be partly *your* fault, you know, due to lingering frustration from those times when you would drive me into screaming rages, and I'd get in trouble. It sucks to be fictional when you're a prodigy who can never win because your enemy is the hero. I also have a hurt-pride fetish. I've been thinking about trying to figure out what all my Special Snowflake characters have in common. Not the ones I just "like," but the ones I obsess about all the time...
