The Purple Butterfly [Chapter Two]

Author's note/rant: I promised myself that I'll post a new chapter of TPB today and I don't like to break my promises, so here you are! I have a cold and it sucks. I sneezed like 50 times in 30 minutes, I'm blowing my nose every ten seconds, my head is killing me and I sware I'm gonna choke to death based on how many times have I coughed today. I'll reply to your comments as soon as I woke up from my nap which is gonna last for hours due to me waking up today at 3 AM and not being able to go to sleep for like  2 hours. Oh, do I have to mention that the remote control was away from where I was sleeping so all I could do was lay in the dark and blow my nose? Goddamn it! Stupid cold! >.<

„Mia?“ Someone called, knocking against the dark wooden doors which led to Mia's office.
„Come in, Daniel,“ Mia said, keeping her gaze on the papers she was working on.
„Hey,“ he said, smiling.
Daniel Johnson was Mia's coworker. He was 28 years old and his father was the owner of the building where Mia and he worked. Where Mia was quickly accepted, loved and respected upon her arrival by other workers, Daniel was considered a stuck up snob who never missed a chance at showing everyone from what kinda family he came from. He was always dressed into the best clothes and there was no mistake that he thought of himself as an attractive young man who doesn't hang out with people who belong to the „lower layer“. When Mia first arrived into the company, she presented a challenge to Daniel because he was of the opinion that he could have any girl he wanted. Mia was obviously not interested in him and she showed that. After months of being declined Daniel finally stopped trying. As a person who was always judged based on her appearance and the fact that she had a child when the father was nowhere in sight, Mia tried the friendly approach and discreetly told him that the way he treated people wasn't right and the reason everyone hated him was his own fault. Daniel was finally faced with the truth and apologized to everyone for being such a jackass. People quickly forgot all the insults and from that moment on, Daniel was always welcomed to every occasion. In fact, it was that particular day that everyone went out for drinks and Daniel was handed the task to invite Mia.
„So, listen,“ Daniel started. „Everyone's going out for drinks to celebrate the arrival of O'Malley's daughter. Wanna come?“
„I can't,“ Mia looked up from her papers. „Blair's babysitter is waiting for me to return and I really don't want to make her stay any longer than it was originally planned. Sorry.“
„Well,“ Daniel sighed, knowing that this was Mia's final decision. „If you change your mind, you know where we are.“
Mia laughed at Daniel's defeated face expression. „Okay. Thanks for inviting me.“
Daniel nodded and was almost out of her sight when Mia shouted behind him. „Tell O'Malley that I'm happy for him and that I congratulated him!“
Daniel nodded, showing Mia a thumbs up and walking away.
Mia laughed, slightly shaking her head and focusing on her papers again. She was glad that Daniel had stopped trying to become something more than friends. Mia wasn't all too sure she was ready to start dating. She didn't love Benjamin, of course, but Blair was still a little girl and even though she was smart and mature, and shared Mia's happiness, Mia still wasn't sure if Blair was ready to share her mother with someone. That would be a huge change that would affect not only Mia's life, but Blair's too. Besides, Mia wanted someone who would love her for who she is; someone who would treat her with respect and love. He had to treat Blair good and love her too. Mia couldn't imagine her life without her daughter and whatever she did, her first thought would be what will Blair think about it and how would she react. Mia shook her head and looked at the clock on the wall and quickly started packing her stuff when she realized her work time ended just a couple of minutes ago. She opened the door and started to the elevator. The hallway was dark and silent. Everyone must've leave by now.

„I'm home“, Mia announced, putting her bag down and closing the apartment door.
„Mommy“, Blair exclaimed, quickly jumping from the chair and landing on her feet. She wasted no time to rush over to Mia with open arms. „Pick me up,“ she said.
Mia laughed and did as she was told. Her heart melted as Blair buried her little head into Mia's shoulder while grinning from ear to ear.
„Did you have a good time with miss Hart?“ Mia asked while putting Blair back down.
„Yup,“ Blair said, nodding her head enthusiastically.
A lady stepped into the room and smiled. „Oh, we had a great time!“
„Thank you for watching Blair, miss Hart. You've really made my life a lot easier.“
„Oh, it's no problem, dear,“ miss Hart smiled. „Blair is such a wonderful child! Oh! I must be going now. See you tomorrow, Blair.“
Blair smiled and Mia thanked the kind lady once again. If it weren't for Miss Hart, who knows what would happen. Mia had bills to pay and she certainly couldn't work when she knew that Blair was alone in the apartment. In fact, Miss Hart even declined money! She had said many times that Blair is like a granddaughter she never could have, seeing as her husband died ten years ago and when he was alive, they couldn't have children due to some problems with health Miss Hart had. Mia felt incredibly sorry for Miss Hart because she simply couldn't imagine what kinda pain that must have caused. It made her appreciate the fact that Blair was here, with her even more. If only she had a father to speak of...

„Hello?“ Mia answered.
She had just tuck Blair in and planned on taking a long, relaxing bath before the phone ringed and she rushed over to answer it so it wouldn't disturb Blair in her sleep.
„Hello?“ Mia repeated, getting slightly annoyed with the person who called. She waited for a few seconds before hanging up and walking to the bathroom. She prepared her bath before undressing herself and leaving the clothes lay on the cold, tiled floor. She dipped her toe into the water to check the temperature. She was satisfied with the result and slowly started putting her long, sorrow body in the hot bath. There were bubbles and foam everywhere and the temperature was just right. Mia let out a small, satisfied sigh. Perfect.
