Now What? ~ Chapter Five ~ ''A Number''

''Since it's obvious we don't work out together all to good, your father and I decided it would be for the best if you'd spend some time at your Grandmother's. Seeing that your school ended a week ago, you will spend the entire summer vacation at Toronto, with Hannah, your Grandma.''

With that said, she looked at me, patiently awaiting my reaction.
The first few minutes I just sat in my wheelchair, frozen in my track. I was to shocked to speak, or to move.

''So, let me get this straight'' - I coughed - ''you and Dad decided this without even asking me what I think, even though it's my life and I'm gonna spend the vacation with Grandma, yes?''
''Yes'' - she sighed.
''I'm not going, then'' - I said.
''Yes, you are. You are our daughter and we are your parents; you will do what we say, is that clear'' - she was getting angry. Is it possible for my mother to show her real emotions, instead of faking hapiness and perfection?
''Hah, it's funny how you're saying that I'm your daughter when just yesterday you didn't give a damn what I think or feel. Apparently, you still don't care. So, no. I'm not going. Do you want me to spell that out for you? I'm. Not. Going. I'm not gonna do what you say just because you're my parents, and I'm no daughter of yours. I stopped being that a long time ago. You don't care about me and I don't care about you two. It's mutual. Now, if you'll apologize me, I have better stuff to do than to listen to my poor mother who's trying to become my authority. You lost that function a long time ago, mommy dearest.''

After I finished my little speech, I smiled politely. I didn't show her how angry, disappointed, sad and lost I was. I can't show my real emotions in front of my enemy.

Few minutes past in silence, until I turned and left the room.
I was just opening the front door to go outside, when someone turned my wheelchair and I saw my mother in front of me. A second passed before I could feel her hand on my cheek. She slapped me. I looked at her in shock, stunned that she did it. She seemed as shocked as I was, her expression screamed ''Oh, my God. I can't believe I did that. I'm sorry, Alice...'' But no words came out of her mouth. As soon as I recovered from the shock, I reached inside my pocket and grabbed that little white cellphone she gave me on my birthday. I looked at it but for a second, before I threw it in front of her legs. The cellphone smashed as I turned and went outside.

I got pretty far from the house before I reached inside my pocket one more time to find a hot pink cellphone which was a gift from my Grandmother Hannah for Christmas. Even though I got a new cell, I kept this one. It meant so much more than any present that my parents gave me. I dialed a number I had in there for a long time. A number I never dared to call.

now what?
