What's this whatthefuckery?

TIME magazine, in its glowing review of the film "The Kids Are All Right," discusses the relationship between the lesbian leads, played by Annette Bening and Julianne Moore. In the review, the writer says: "Nic and Jules have a lesbian-specific quirk or two (they like watching gay men's porn to get turned on), but otherwise they have the completely average issues of any middle-aged couple."

What?!?!! Getting turned on by gay men's porn is lesbian-specific? Um. OK. Where does that put the rest of us who aren't lesbians? Are we really lesbians and just don't know it, admit it, are we bisexual and just don't know it, admit, etc.?

Following this faulty line of logic, straight women shouldn't be turned on by gay men's porn.

Am I making too much of this review? Is the writer, Mary Pols, speaking from experience, making an assumption, off her nut? What?

I wish I could give you a link that includes the entire article, but it's not available and probably won't be for a week or so.

Seriously, what sort of editor gives a sentence like that a pass? I sure as hell would have either told the writer to get some facts to prove the point or cut the line all together. And more seriously, how does what the two get off on have anything to do with how they're raising their kids?

I proclaim real journalism officially dead. Where's Don McLean when you need him?

damn it
