The arborist came this morning and topped our dying birch (we're hoping that by taking off the dying part we'll save the tree) and remove an alder that was crowding out everything else and starting to die back also. Here's the before and after:
http://picasaweb.google.com/storychick/TreePics Its amazing what a difference it makes, you cant tell as much in the pictures. But there is tons more light coming in the living room now and the maple and magnolia that had been totally overshadowed can really stand out now. I hated taking down a lovely tree but I think it was the right decision.
It was also totally cool watching those guys scale the trees and cut like it was no big deal. Neat stuff. And now we have a cool stump in the front that Willow wants us to put chairs by so she can use it as a table. :)
Now we just have to hope our surgery on the birch does its job. That is a lovely tree indeed.
