That is beautiful. I love the juxtaposition of old-style botanical illustration with Surrealist imagery. I'd have bought the book just to find out why the poor snail's been shackled so ... could you reveal any of the plot? I'm curious!

Thanks a lot.

To be honest I can't remember what the plot was. I was trying to find a story vehicle for a snail based book. I had a few ideas and illustrated them. I've got a pile of snail illustrations in different sorts of distress or rapture.

I had a fixation with snails for a while. I liked ipainting the shells etc. I did about half a dozen illustrations trying to find a story line. It's more of a finished sketch than a part of a book.

Gouache does tend to stand out brightly when scanned to computer.
