Angela stood looking at the picture in the frame. It was a bitter reminder of a much happier time between her and Jack. The tears fell down her cheek and she didn’t bother to try and wipe it away. She thought that maybe, just maybe their love story had finally come to an end.

They were both so worried about keeping the pain out that they refused to let each other in. They played the same game over and over again. Each dodging the question that was there, on the tips of their tongues. The words that needed to be said, but it was those very words that could shatter each of them forever.
Why did love have to be so difficult? She loved Jack and she knew that he loved her. There was something that kept them apart. It was like there was an invisible space between them. However, it was like no space that she’d ever felt before. It was more like a wall. Huge, solid and keeping everything in and letting nothing out.

She wanted to scream at Jack and tell him that she loved him. She’d tried that, but he’d simply turned and walked away. She couldn’t understand what it was that had made him so upset at her. She hadn’t done anything to warrant such disdain from him. She loved him. Truthfully, she wanted to marry him. She’d finally admitted that to him. She’d always wanted to marry him. Sometimes, when she allowed herself the luxury of dreaming, she would imagine that she’d been married to him all along. She’s been Mrs. Jack Hodgins for all these years. However, it always managed to leave her in tears and she’d taken to clutching the stuffed teddy bear that he’d won for her at the carnival when they’d first started dating. It was a bit tattered now, but it still reminded her of the happier days. She wondered if she would ever be truly happy again.

She doubted a lot of things in her life, but the one thing that she now knew that she didn’t doubt was her feelings for Jack. She loved him. Totally and completely, without any of the reservations that she’d had before. She knew that she wanted to marry him. She just wished that she could find the way to tell him before it was too late. Before he gave up on them forever.

Maybe it was for the best. Maybe, just maybe their love story had seen the end. Maybe she was destined to be without the love of her life forever. Maybe she would walk the rest of her days without him. Forever searching for the one thing that she could never experience, true and everlasting love. Her family didn’t have any of that kind of luck. Her mom had died when she was barely three. Leaving her father to raise her alone and heartbroken. He’d done an excellent job of being both a mother and father to her. She couldn’t have asked for a better childhood. She was always surrounded by people that loved her. People that made her into who she was today.

Still, she couldn’t help but wanting more, a family to call her own and a husband to share it with. She wanted all of that and more. She wanted the brass ring. Most of all, she wanted it with only one man. If she couldn’t share it with him, then she decided that she didn’t want it with anyone else. She would rather live alone forever.

She walked to his house and knocked on the door. It took a few moments for him to come to the door, but when he did, the look on his face was guarded. They’d gotten into a huge fight and he wondered if she’d come here to continue. He looked at her and sighed, “I don’t want to fight anymore Ange. So if that’s why you’re here I think it’s best if you leave.”

Angela shook her head and whispered softly, “I don’t want to fight anymore. I don’t like what’s happening between us. I love you Jack and I’m tired of fighting and trying to push you away. I thought I wanted space, but what I want is you.”

“Me?”

She nodded slowly, “I want you. I want a life with you. I want…”

“What do you want?”

“I want everything. I want a family. I want a lifetime of love and laughter. I want everything that you have too offer me Jack.”

For a moment she thought that he was going to tell her to leave. However, he reached out for her and hugged her tightly. He whispered, “I want that to Ange. I’ve always wanted it with you and only you. Wait here.”

She watched as he walked into his bedroom. He came back with a small box in his hand. He got down on one knee and asked, “Ange, I’ve always loved you. Probably since the first day that we met. I’ve always known that you were the one for me. Even when the space between us was so great that it felt like the Grand Canyon. I know that you felt it too.

Angela smiled down at him and nodded. He continued, “What I’m trying to say. Trying to ask, is, Angela, will you do me the honor of marrying me?”

She nodded softly and didn’t try to stop the tears the rolled down her cheeks. She felt that all of her dreams were finally coming true. Once and for all and maybe she would finally get her happy ending.

She whispered, “I love you too Jack. I always have. Even when I wanted to scream at you. I’ve always known that we were made for each other. Maybe that’s what scared me. Knowing that you were perfect for me. It scared me. Which is crazy right? Because it’s usually Bren that’s scared about love. Look at her a Booth. Perfect for one another, but scared to admit it for fear of losing the other. I want to grow old with you. I love you and want to be with you forever.”

With that, Jack reached for Angela’s hand and put the ring on. It fit perfectly. They smiled at each other and kissed softly. Safe in their love for each other.
