liking pop. =/= missing brain cells

Instead of going off on a tangent at the places that sparked this rant, I'll do it here. Yet another "liking Naruto makes you an idiot" post, coupled with a whole bunch of "only idiots like HP" comments on slashdot.

So, liking HP/Naruto/Bleach/Avatar (those seem to be the usual suspects) does not make a person a moron; on the contrary it shows they ( Read more... )

but I still love the fight sequences
That's 'cause they are some of the best fight's in animation. (The animators used Samurai Champloo as a model.)
I agree with just about everything you said-so annoyed that this season's airing has been so haphazard that I haven't managed to catch any of it. Zuko's one of the best complicated characters I've seen in ages-a total screw up but I can't help hoping he'll change his tune. It's not only the main characters-the girl Zuko kisses in a side story is realized enough that I can get a sense of her characterization-that's how well done the development is.
So yeah, I totally agree with you.

And when they do air it-it's Friday/Saturday night when I have Shabbos and no reruns at times when I actually can watch it.

The ATLA voice casting is brilliant-actually in general I love stuff in English just 'cause I can here the age of the character better. (It's only by paying attention to English stuff that I've finally started to pay attention to Japanese voices.)

Personally though, I also love Avatar for the structure and theme-it's got it's four element/balance stuff down.

If I could find them cheap maybe I'd buy 'em-already spending a fortune on manga (don't download everything.)

I saw-she is fabulous, and it is cute how many of 'em have worked on other projects together.

I actually followed Japanese seiyuu first but then I realized that the US pool is TINY and that individual studios reuse voices. I've come to follow voices I like and avoid ones I don't.
I sort of do that-but more so in deciding which dubs to avoid;though even then, it's usually more a dislike of one or two voices, not the whole thing.

The convo at #lurk is getting to me-one vocal avatar hater who calls everyone else noobs.

A)I like OEL's (which I can sometimes find on #lurk and MLFS, but still) b)MT got a request from TokyoPop to take a bunch of stuff down. Plus I buy a lot of Nosastu Junkie, 'cause the releases are all bad TokyoPop scans anyway (and behind the English releases at that.)

I think Bandai's still around, but not doing much dubbing anymore. *shrugs*

#lurk is the irc channel for gotlurk.net-it's the place to find any and all manga. They've got the licenced, dropped, nobody else is touching it stuff, and are on good terms with most groups so getting stuff off of the channel tends to not annoy anyone.

Ochibichan and Shoujomagic have pretty good tutorials (actually mangashare also has a decent one-at least for downloading from #lurk). *shrugs* I use trillian, which has built in irc, so it's pretty straightforward.
