345, Arthur Weasley

Three years on lj, four years in fandom, and five, well that's the most important, and weirdest of the lot. I've been labeling myself Orthodox for about five years now, but honestly it feels like I've been doing it so much longer a lot of the time. Maybe 'cause it crept up on me, maybe 'cause it was always in my plan, or maybe just 'cause. I find ( Read more... )

Hey, nice to see you post! Family stuff has somewhat interfered with fandom, as I related to you in the email, but I did get to see the movie with slytherincess on Friday and we're planning on picking up the book together Saturday morning. Also, I'll probably be taking my grandmother to see it on Thursday. Same family stuff made her not want to see it last week but things are looking a bit more positive. I should probably just email with instead of this vague dancing around here ( ... )

Email away. I've got new family stuff, though for a slight change it's on my father's side. (Oh and he's gonna be in town tomorrow, which may get me embroiled in more divorce drama. Gah, it's been about 10 years and yet...)

Honestly I admire Arthur for not taking a shinier job, 'cause he's doing it 'cause he really believes in what he does. He thinks muggle tech is cool and once to protect muggls from the mean spirited and sometimes quite harmful spells wizards can put on things. In some ways it's just as important as any of the other law and order jobs, but it gets nowhere near as much attention 'cause it's so buried and seems so dull and bureaucratic.

I think I noticed it 'cause I'm kind of like that. The director of honors once introduced me to a student saying "This is Hannah, she knows everybody" and I kind of do. Or I know everybody who knows everybody, or three people removed, or something similar, but when it comes to lots of situations, I usually know who/where to direct people to.

I was talking to a friend about divorce and she's got an older stepsister still bitter about her parents divorce. In the 1960s. I guess somehow or another it never goes away. Will you be seeing your dad tomorrow?

Yeah, it is an important job and it's good for him to be doing something he believes in. I've heard some people say Arthur is condescending to Muggles but I don't think fascination and curiosity necessarily means that, even if he doesn't always approach the situation in the best manner. I know Hermione's parents seemed uncomfortable with him in COS or maybe that was due to the fight he got into with Lucius. Which is understandable but the WW seems to have a much more accepting and even sometimes cartoonish level of violence than ours. Do you think Arthur is condescending or views Muggles as somehow inferior?

Do you get asked often, then, because of a knows everybody reputation? For help and stuff like that.

Yeah, had dinner with him.

He's just a nice guy. He was so nice to Winky, asking questions, showing concern, it was oh so sweet. I just think Arthur's just kind to everyone, 'specially people who he thinks have the bad end of the stick in a situation.

Not often, more that I tend to be a busy body 'cause I know the answers.

*eek* Kind of, sort of, got spoiled for the epilogue of HBP 'cause of an off hand comment somebody else made about it, but is it a spoiler if it's not at all surprising? *eek* Gonna be so hard to avoid spoilers 'cause everyone has a different tolerance.

I'd forgotten about the Winky stuff. Poor lil House Elf.

I'm trying so hard to avoid spoilers and there's so much stuff flying around, some say they've got to be hoaxes. I don't know what to think! *eek* is right. The only thing spoilery I've read so far is the alleged first paragraph or so from an article in the Observer. I don't even know if I want to know if Ron or Hermione die. One thing I do find annoying in predictions is that Ron has to die as Harry's best friend to give Harry whatever push he needs to defeat Voldemort. I completely expect Ron and/or Hermione to make big sacrifices and maybe get seriously hurt. But Harry's had so much crap and so much death in his life I don't think he needs more just to defeat Voldemort. Especially since love is supposed to be his power, not hatred.

I'm getting really nervous, though. I wouldn't want to do this every week!

I don't buy Ron dying 'cause if he dies than Hermione dies 'cause of symbolism and structure and that's just too much death, but *shrugs*

I'm not even really buying the spoilers I see, 'cause everyone's throwing out and making up spoilers. Even the Colbert Report was lampooning the spoiler thing the other day. (Used the Voldy is James' ghost theory.)

The wackiest Ron will die theory I've come across is that Arthur, of legend, had a spear named Ron. It's towards the end of this post. I really don't see how Ron connects to that at all.

I feel sorry for my brother. He doesn't want to be spoiled but won't get to read it until August, likely, and I'm not sure how he can completely avoid references since I imagine stuff will be all over certain parts of the news.

I just finished today and I'm surprised at how unspoiled I was. Even the spoiler that I had read hadn't really spoiled me. So maybe the bro will be fine, 'specially if he can avoid spoilers.
