I may have been remiss in my duties in not providing sufficient detail of the nature of Lieutenant Daremo's medical condition, and how Counsellor

My understanding was that there is give and take. If Lothar wants something, he should find a way of motivating you. I'll leave the method of motivation up to him.
Once again I express my annoyance with the way Starfleet and its officers holds to a double standard. When I was an ambassador I once lit a Klingon on fire to see the red (although it was AFTER the treaty: an understandable error) and a Vulcan on fire to see green (once again, Storvik, sorry and my best wishes to your brother's continued improving health.) Did I receive a look the other way? These little "incidents" became part of my permanent record and quickened my demotion. (And I thought the "quickening" was supposed to be a cool thing - hmph!) At any rate, all I ask for is fairness - at least let me torch Lieutenant Daremo without consequence. I'm guessing he burns yellow.

I think your choice of kindling -- I mean, victim -- does make a big difference in cases like this. As for Daremo, he's already a briquette; so he would merely glow a dull red now. I don't know what color he glowed originally when Lothar tested him. Besides, part of your punishment was transfer to the Murgatroid -- and since Lothar is already here, we can't very well threaten him with that. As for your rank of Ensign, there's little I can do about that -- your permanent record has a clause banning you from any advancement for the time being. Is that a problem?

Problem? No. A problem is waking up to find a strange Ferengi wearing your shorts. A problem is going to sleep watching the ship's counselor wearing a Ferengi's shorts (with the Ferengi still in them!) No. This is not a problem. I am happy amongst my red-shirted brethren, with the knowledge that I will never have to transport down on a first-contact only to be vaporized, simonized, evaporated, extracted, evanished or otherwise demoted to non-living.

We keep you on board during first contact situations because (1) your theoretical knowledge of diplomacy and alien relations is too great to risk, and (2) your actual practical experience and history meeting aliens in person ranks up there with Lothar's. By keeping you and your red shirt on the ship, you don't die by accident and the rest of us don't get killed by the aliens on purpose.
