She sat in the booth looking outside as the almost-wise man came to sit with her. They talked for a minute then jackass came and sat with them. Jackass invited her to a party. She felt accepted, then to promote his upcoming event, Jackass left. The almost-wise man looked at her for a long moment then said "You aren't the kind of girl that belongs there, at one his parties?"
"And what makes you think that I'm not the kind of girl that would belong there." She responded.
"Because he only wants you there so he can take advantage of you, and your to sweet for that." The almost-wise man said.
"What makes you think I'm so sweet?" She said trying to sound mature.
"Because of the way you bat your eyelashes, and the way you look at life." She smiled at him.
"And besides he's not your type."
"And what makes you think that." She glanced over at Jackass, and then back to the almost-wise man.
"Because he needs the city, he needs the noise, he needs to know that buildings surround him, he needs to know that he can walk down the corner and buy beer, he's immature. You could care less about the city. In fact you could live in the silence and not mind one bit, plus your mature. You need someone like that. Someone smart. Someone like that..." he pointed towards that bookworm, sitting in the booth catty-corner from them. The bookworm, whom she'd noticed a thousand times before took a drag of his cigarette, then smiled as smartass sat down with him, and together they laughed.
"Sure someone like him, if he'd only notice."
"Your blind. Sure he's notices. Who couldn't. Every time you walk into this place, all the smoke and noise go away and the place brightens up." The almost-wise man said. She looked back towards the bookworm, and smile as he looked up towards her, he smiled back awkwardly, and sort of blushed. Then she notice his smile widened as the black-haired lady sat down with them. Her Heart sank.
"That's ridiculous. See."
"She's a pawn, and" the almost-wise man leaned in close, "you could take her."
