A few weeks later...

It was a few weeks after they'd returned from the two night stay at "Whispering Pines" and Brendan was sitting on the terrace enjoying a cup of tea as he glanced through the soccer results in the paper. It had been a while since he'd bothered looking at them, and he had no idea what made him even start again. He put the mug down on the metal ( Read more... )

Patrick woke up little more than an hour later, spending the first few minutes listening to the steady sound of Brendan's breathing, before he eventually rolled onto his other side, pressing a small kiss to Brendan's cheek and snuggling close as he waited for the other man to wake up as well.

ooc: Good point. Patrick has tons more things he wants to talk about. Poor Brendan. ;)

Brendan lay there, awake, but too comfortably relaxed to move. He knew Patrick was awake and enjoyed the feeling of the man snugging up against him. He slowly rolled his head toward him and started to drag his eyes open.

"Hey," Patrick whispered once his sleepy mind processed the fact that Brendan was in fact awake. That didn't stop him from inching closer and slipping his arm around the man. "I'm fairly sure there are things I need to be doing today - " he mumbled after a moment's silence. "Don't particularly feel like it though."

"I think I know what you mean," Brendan replied, folding him arm around Patrick's shoulders and giving him a squeeze as he rolled his head back to look at the bedside clock. "Gotta go in tonight, though," he added, seeing there was still no real need to rush.

Patrick blinked and raised his head, a genuinely puzzled look crossing his face as he asked, "You do? Then why did you have me order tickets for the game tonight if you're working?"

"Before we go to the game," he clarified. "Lucy wanted to see me about something, and she goes on leave tomorrow for a week, so I said I'd go and see her when her shift started."

"OK," Patrick muttered and unconsciously tightened his hold on Brendan. "Well, I supposed that's all right," he continued in an attempt to cover up his embarrassment about feeling oddly disappointment moments before about something as trivial as visiting a football match. "After all, I were going to let you leave the bedroom at some point today."

"Well I reckon that'd be a smart move, cuz, y' know, the bathroom has its uses." He grinned and quickly pressed a kiss to Patrick's forehead before slipping his arm out from beneath him. "Don't go away, just need t' see a man about a dog."

"I said at some point, Brendan," Patrick muttered in protest. "That point wasn't supposed to be right this bloody minute," he sighed and rolled over to the other side of the bed in search of some cigarettes before remembering he wasn't supposed to smoke in the bedroom. Favoring staying in bed over having an actual cigarette, Patrick randomly picked up one of the books he kept on his nightstand, his brow furrowing as he opened it, staring at the page in front of him.

Walking back into the room Brendan saw Patrick's face, eyes squinting as he tried to read the book in his hands. Crawling back across the bed he dropped onto his side, leaning on an elbow and craned his neck to look at the pages, and the size of the writing before looking back at Patrick's face.

"Good read?"

"Aye, it's - " Patrick didn't bother to finish his sentence, his frown deepening as he gave Brendan a sideways glance. "I know the damn book by heart, so I can't really tell whether or not I'm having trouble reading it," he mumbled and glanced down at the book again, his jaw tightening almost imperceptibly as he did.

Rolling onto his back Brendan tucked one hand behind his head, propping it up so he could still see Patrick. "Then it's about time y' got them glasses, hey? Don't want you making mistakes with the figures at the bar now, do I?"

As he placed the book back on the nightstand, Patrick uttered a deep sigh. "I suppose I've always considered myself to be fairly eloquent," he told Brendan. "But, mate, honestly, I don't think I could ever find the words needed to tell you how much I detest the mere thought of having to wear glasses."

"Why?" He frowned, trying to understand. "Reckon you'd look hot in 'em," he added with a grin.

"You may have mentioned that already," Patrick said, the hint of a smile crossing his face. "And I can't really say why, perhaps I've always considered it to be a weakness of sorts and I needn't point out to you that that I have a fair share of those already." His smile turned wry. "More than I care for, really."

Brendan rolled back onto his side, propping his head up on his hand again as he looked at Patrick.

"Well, if y' see it like that, isn't it a good thing y' can do somethin' about it? Wearin' glasses has t' be one of the easiest things anyone ever had t' do to sort it out, isn't it?"
