A few weeks later...

It was a few weeks after they'd returned from the two night stay at "Whispering Pines" and Brendan was sitting on the terrace enjoying a cup of tea as he glanced through the soccer results in the paper. It had been a while since he'd bothered looking at them, and he had no idea what made him even start again. He put the mug down on the metal ( Read more... )

"And what if I'd still think I looked awfully close to a dork even though you'd think it was the hottest thing you ever saw?" Patrick asked, the hint of a smile playing on his lips. "How were you planning on fixing that, mate?"

He shrugged lightly, hiding the smirk. "Dunno, though at least I'd not have t' worry 'bout you being picked up by some hot young stud, then, would I?"

Patrick grinned. "I don't know - if I'd be the only one not seeing how hot I truly am then I reckon you ought to worry about that quite a bit actually."

"Who says I don't already?" Brendan replied nonchalantly, lifting up the newspaper and starting to read it again, or at least give the impression it was absorbing his attention.

"Fair point," Patrick murmured as he finished his tea. "I suppose you just hide it well then - really well."

Brendan gave Patrick a lop-sided grin, turning a page of the paper and straightening it as he arched an eyebrow. "Years o' practice, mate. Nice t' know it's workin'."

"I don't know, perhaps I'd rather you didn't hide it quite that well." Patrick leaned back in his chair, still studying the other man. "Anything interesting in there?" he asked casually. "Just asking since I can't read it myself of course - "

Giving a soft snort Brendan looked over the open pages on his lap, his knee extending out as he lifted his ankle and rested it on his knee.

"Mainly just that thing they call football here. And some of the fallout from the Tour. Still don't understand how a bloke havin' too much testosterone makes him ride faster."

Patrick shrugged. "Does it matter? Cycling stopped being fun when those blokes kept getting caught, I'm not the one to tell them they ought to play by the rules, but the least they could do - for the public's sake - is try a bit harder not to get caught all the fuckin' time."

"Then the paper's'd have t' be makin' up the news, cuz you can't just have it all 'good' all the time. Boring, hey?" He turned the page, looking at an action shot of a crash during the latest round of the Nascar series.

"Christ, bet that hurt," he muttered, showing it to Patrick.

"Damn, I missed that." Patrick smirked when Brendan looked up at him. "The race, not the crash, although that tends to make things a bit more interesting of course." He stifled a yawn and stretched before sitting back again. "Speaking of which - "

"Hmm?" Brendan slowly looked up after finishing reading the story. "What?"

"We should fuck." He pushed his chair back slowly then leaned over to pick up his mug, raising his head up to look at Brendan. "Would you like some more tea first?"

"Y'know it's what I always found so charming about you," Brendan laughed. "Such a damned romantic!" He grinned as he shook his head. "Nah, that cuppa did me fine, I'll probably feel like a beer after though."

Patrick smirked. "Well I could try and be a bit more romantic but that would mean it would take us a lot longer to get to the part where there's actual sex happening - " His smirk widened and he held out his hand to Brendan. "I promise I'll buy you flowers next time, mate, come on - "

"Yeah, guess y've never really been one t' beat about the bush, hey?" Brendan chuckled as he took Patrick's hand. Once standing he tilted his head to one side and cocked his hip at an angle, putting on a high-pitched voice.

"Just s'long as y' still respect me in the mornin'!"
