"Erk," said Tess, rolling over in bed. She pushed hair from her eyes and burrowed deeper under the covers. The clock said it was close to noon, her normal time to be sleeping after work. "How can you sound so cheerful so early!" she called anyway.

"One of the joys of being big brother, getting to wake you up!" he returned through the closed door. "Got some coffee here for you. Will that help put a smile on that pretty face of yours?"

"I guess we could try it." She was already smiling though as she got up and padded to the door. She opened it and stood there completely naked. "Come on in."

"Still having trouble with your wardrobe?" he asked, squinting a little as the silhouette of a naked Tess was outlined in the doorway. He held out the coffee. "Poor Sam missed the show. Next time he might have the breakfast ready when I head on up here."

"Well, you'll have to let him know next time you plan to come wake me up." She grinned and stepped back, then turned and picked up the robe that was on the foot of her bed. "There, that better?"

"I will, if you'd like." He followed her in and put the coffee on the table. "So how's work been? Hardly seen you around with our schedules the way they are."

She went right for the coffee and picked it up. Normally she had a cigarette too, but she'd hold off a little for Brendan's sake. "Thanks for bringing this. Work's fine. Just like old times. Hey, did you know Liadan and Jack are engaged?"

"No, I didn't, good for them!" Brendan sat down on the edge of the table, crossing his ankles as he gave Tess a suprised grin. "They still coming to the bar on Friday?"

"Of course." She sat down on the edge of her bed and inhaled the coffee. "Why would I miss the chance to come to a bar! Especially one I live in?"

"Uh, I know you are, I said 'they', as in Liadan and Jack?" he pointed out, amused.

"Oh." She blinked. "Well, hey, I just woke up so you can't blame me. And as far as I know, yes, they are. Oh yeah, and they're engaged too." She buried her face in her cup.

He shakes his head at her. "Uh, yeah, that was what you said just a minute ago... you sure you're awake?"

"No, it's early..." She put a little extra whine in her voice and took another sip of coffee. "And I've hardly had any caffeine, and no cigarette yet. Have mercy on your little sister."

"Whatever you say," he laughed, "and drink your coffee. Just thought I'd catch up with you and make sure you're alright for Friday, and helping out, you and Liadan. Or would you rather I come back sometime when you're properly caffeinated and nicotined up?"

"No, no." She sighed dramatically. "I guess it was about time I got up. But, just a warning, if you plan to hang out for awhile, you'll have to deal with some smoke. But I'll stick my head out the window just for you." She stuck her tongue out at him and smiled. "I'm fine with Friday. Already have the night off and so does Liadan. You know, I'm not so sure Liadan's going to keep dancing much longer."

"Oh? What makes you say that? You think when she and Jack get married she might stop or something?" he asked, walking over and opening the window for her. He'd stopped telling her she didn't have to, but appreciated that she did it anyway.

"Is she thinking of doing something else, or just going to give up the dancing?"
