Summary: Aiba decides to take Sho out on their day off. A lot of fluff ensues.
Disclaimer: Not mine. You know the drill.
AN: For some reason (read: because I procrastinate a lot) this took three days to write. It is fluff. It doesn't pretend to be anything but fluff. Please enjoy :D!
It was almost beyond Sho's comprehension why his day off - where his only plans had been to eat, sleep, watch TV, and maybe venture out to the convenience store for snacks, if he was feeling particularly adventurous - had turned into an all out day of excitement and fun. Almost beyond his comprehension; simply because it was Aiba that had knocked on his door at eight in the morning, proclaiming that he was taking Sho out for the day, and the fact that it was Aiba was what made it understandable.
The ‘all out day of excitement and fun’ wasn’t Sho’s phrasing; it might’ve been had he been given another few hours in bed, but he hadn’t, and so it became obvious that the sentence was in all actuality one said by Aiba, whilst he was trying to convince Sho that he really did want to leave the warmth and comfort of his apartment for the day. Sho still wasn’t sure whether agreeing had been a good idea or not, but Aiba had promised that they would be back before dinner time, and then they could sit down, relax, watch DVDs and do absolutely nothing- exactly what Sho wanted.
That was how Sho found himself sitting on a blanket in the park, where he had been for a number of hours. It turned out that Aiba had prepared a picnic. Sho wasn’t sure if it could really be called a picnic - he could only describe it as a small mountain of candy, with two sandwiches and a few bananas precariously balanced on top - but Aiba seemed to have worked hard at making it, even if the hardest thing had been getting the sandwiches and fruit to not fall off, so he didn’t complain.
The sandwiches had disappeared long ago, right at the beginning of their meal. Sho would’ve expected the bananas to go next, only Aiba had insisted that the fruit was for dessert, and would be eaten at the end. He had found himself unable to resist the need to ask what the hell the candy was, if the bananas were dessert; Aiba had shoved a handful of colourful sweets at him and declared that they were going to start cloud watching, so that had been the end of the matter. Sho had accepted the candy obediently, unwrapping a green sweet carefully as Aiba lay flat on his back. Once the candy was in Sho’s mouth Aiba had wasted no time in giving Sho’s arm a hard tug, resulting in them both lying down on the blanket, surrounded by the sweets which Sho had dropped in surprise.
“That one looks like a cat.” Aiba pointed at one of the clouds, blindly searching for a piece of candy with one hand as he continued to stare at it. Sho followed Aiba’s finger, looking carefully at the specified cloud.
“How is that a cat? It looks more like an elephant.”
“Tilt your head left and squint a little.” Aiba’s fingers closed around a strawberry flavoured sweet, and Sho knew that there was a triumphant smile on the other’s face without even having to look; it was no secret that strawberry was Aiba’s favourite, and for the man to pick it up without even looking was apparently a miraculous happening, one to be celebrated.
Sho followed the other’s instructions - not before glancing over to see whether his suspicion about the triumphant smile was correct, which it was - tilting his head to the left and squinting at the cloud before nodding. “You’re right, that’s a cat.”
What seemed like hours of cloud watching passed before Sho decided to sit up; he had concluded that if you looked hard enough at a cloud, you could make it resemble pretty much anything you wanted it to, within reason. Aiba sat up a few moments later, only it was for an entirely different reason; the candy supply had run out, and that meant the end of their cloud watching session.
“What now?” Sho looked at Aiba, wondering what else was on the schedule for the day. Aiba pondered the question for a moment before lying back down; Sho found himself being pulled back down to join the other only a matter of seconds later.
“We’re having a nap.” Aiba declared, shifting to rest his head on Sho’s stomach.
Sho resisted the urge to complain about how they wouldn’t need to nap if Aiba had waited a few hours before banging on his door, instead choosing to get himself more comfortable by pillowing his head with his hands; any attempt at an argument was pointless anyway, Aiba always won. It didn’t take too long for them to fall asleep, Aiba’s feet poking off the edge of the blanket because he was just that little bit too tall too fit on completely.
It was Aiba that woke up first, an hour or so later, when a fat raindrop landed on his cheek. He raised a hand to wipe at the wet spot, managing to conclude in his half asleep state that it was indeed starting to rain, and they should probably move before it got heavier and they got soaked.
He sat up, shaking Sho a couple of times to wake him before beginning to pack away the remainders of their picnic - not that there was much left, only the bananas which they had been saving for dessert. Sho opened his eyes to see that a cloudy grey sky had replaced the blue one with fluffy white clouds which he had fallen asleep under. A raindrop fell dangerously close to his eye, and he decided to sit up before another decided to fall that tiny bit closer.
“It’s raining.” He remarked intelligently, beginning to stand up and stretch.
“Yes.” Aiba agreed, lifting up the basket and stepping off the blanket. “So we’re going home.”
Sho stepped off the blanket as well, bending down to pick it up, and then beginning to fold it carefully. When it was folded into a neat rectangle he tucked it under his arm and looked around for a few moments. Aiba grabbed his wrist and began to walk out of the park, the other following closely behind; Sho was hopeless when he had just woken up - it took a good ten minutes before his brain could function properly, and so Aiba had to do all the work.
By the time they made it out of the park the rain was no longer falling sporadically - it had worsened to a state where it would soak anything not under some sort of shelter. Aiba broke into a run, letting go of Sho’s wrist. The rain appeared to have woken Sho up some as he followed, not nearly as dazed as he had been when they were still in their picnic spot.
There was no doubt that they would be soaked through by the time they reached Sho’s apartment - neither of them had thought of taking an umbrella - but they continued to run anyway, only slowing when Aiba decided to duck into a video rental store, Sho following straight after him.
“I promised that we would watch DVDs at your place.” Aiba offered as an explanation, shaking his head a little in an attempt to dry off, the movement sending rivulets of water flying off his hair; most landed on Sho, but some landed on various displays, much to the shop owner’s dismay. Sho sent him an apologetic look before looking at Aiba.
“I do own DVDs you know, Masaki.”
Aiba made his way over to a set of shelves and began to look through the movies, waiting for one to catch his interest. “I know, but you’ve already seen them all, it’s more interesting to watch something new.”
After what felt like hours of waiting, Sho was holding six carefully selected DVDs as Aiba dragged him over to the cashier; personally he thought the number was a little excessive - there was no way that they would get through all six in one night, certainly not if they were going to sleep - but Aiba had insisted that it was important to have backup options, in case some of the movies sucked.
They paid before moving back towards the door, pausing in front of it before pushing it open. Despite their wishes, the rain hadn’t ceased; it had decided to do the exact opposite and was falling heavier than before, in thick sheets that soaked anything within a matter of seconds. Sho took a deep breath in preparation before running back into the rain, towards his apartment, the plastic bag containing the DVDs pressed close to his chest in an attempt to keep them undamaged and somewhat dry. Aiba ran after him, the thoroughly soaked picnic basket still in hand.
Neither of them stopped until they reached Sho’s front door. Sho fumbled for his key, managing to unlock the door fairly quickly, considering the water-induced slippery state of both his fingers and the key. They all but fell through the door in escape from the rain, both of them dripping with water as they pulled the door shut behind them and took off their shoes - which seemed to have done little to protect their feet from the rain; thanks to the weather, their socks were several shades darker than they had been when they’d put them on that morning.
They stumbled into the bathroom for towels - waterlogged jeans making walking a much harder task than usual - and Sho pulled two off the railing, handing one to Aiba before leaving the room. His bedroom was the next stop, more precisely, his closet.
It wasn’t too long before he returned to the bathroom with clothes for both of them. Aiba was sitting on the lid of the toilet, peeling soggy socks from his feet and dropping them next to the bath. The towel was around his shoulders, and his hair stood up in disarray; Sho could only assume that it was a result of a quick towel drying job, where no precautions had been taken to keep the hair in even a vaguely neat state.
He set the clothes for Aiba on the edge of the bath, then put his next to them before following Aiba’s lead and pulling off his dripping socks. Aiba was already battling with a pair of soaked jeans, which appeared to be doing their best to stick to his legs awkwardly as he tried to pull them off. Usually Sho would’ve changed in another room, only he got the feeling that if he did, that room would end up as soaked as he was, and he didn’t really want to risk it. He began to peel off his shirt, dropping it in the bath - where it landed with a loud, wet slap - as he reached for his towel.
After struggling with thoroughly waterlogged clothes for a few minutes they were both changed, and far drier than they had been when they first walked through the door. Making his way back out of the bathroom, Sho retrieved the picnic basket - which had left a damp spot on his carpet, that he really hoped wouldn’t leave any permanent damage - and moved it into the bathtub, retrieving the bananas so that they could eat them whilst they watched the movies.
By the time Sho had picked up the DVDs from the doorway and made sure that they didn’t look ruined, Aiba was already waiting on the couch, a plate of fruit in front of him; it seemed as though bananas weren’t enough anymore, although Sho really wasn’t sure whether Aiba expected them to go through all the food or not - there was a lot on the plate.
Sho carefully removed the DVDs from the plastic bag and set them down on the table; the bananas were placed on top of the pile of fruit, and the plastic bag was taken to join all the other soaked items in the bath.
After a while of debating over which movie to start with, it was decided that they would go from the top of the pile and work their way down. The first one was a typical romantic comedy; Sho really wasn’t sure why Aiba had chosen that one in particular - all romantic comedies were basically the same - but he put it in the DVD player anyway, for lack of a reason not to.
An hour later saw Sho and Aiba curled up on the couch, immersed in the movie. The pile of fruit had shrunk considerably since the beginning of the film; Sho had to wonder how the hell a person could eat so much fruit in such a short space of time - Aiba had eaten the vast majority of what was gone.
Another hour saw the start of the next film - action this time - and the further shrinking of the pile of fruit. The movie was only on for around ten minutes before Aiba deemed it boring and decided that it was time to order pizza. Rather than spending hours on deciding what toppings to choose, Sho suggested that it might be easier to just get pepperoni on top; Aiba agreed, but not after confirming that it was okay for them to have the pepperoni specially arranged.
The pizza arrived soon later, the company living up to their promise of a speedy delivery, much to Sho’s disappointment - he had yet to get any money back for a late pizza, much as he wanted the surprise of a free meal. Aiba was delighted to open the box and find a smiley face of pepperoni on top - he hadn’t specified what he wanted on top, just that it should be special - and gave the pizza boy a bigger tip than Sho thought was really necessary, considering the fact that the delivery boy wasn’t even the one who made it.
Once the delivery boy was paid and gone, they settled back down in front of the television to start on the third DVD of the night. The next one appeared to be horror; Sho wasn’t sure why Aiba even picked it up, it wasn’t exactly a secret that Aiba fared about as well with horror films as he did with spicy food. Even so, within ten minutes the film was playing. After another ten minutes Sho could feel fingers gripping at his arm; he didn’t really mind, although it did make eating pizza a slightly harder task than it really should’ve been.
It didn’t take long for the grip on Sho’s arm to get tighter; Sho decided to give up on the pizza for a while so that he could focus on the movie. By the time they were halfway into the film, Aiba had his head hidden between Sho’s shoulder and the back of the couch. He would occasionally glance up, then return to the safety of his hiding place. Sho continued to watch the film, sending a longing glance at the pizza every once in a while.
It wasn’t until the end of the film, when he looked down at Aiba, that he realised the other had fallen asleep at some point during the movie. He nudged Aiba a few times, until the other lifted his head, blinking as he got his bearings. After a few moments of thought, Aiba had deduced that he had fallen asleep on Sho’s shoulder halfway through the film; Sho was still amazed that Aiba could fall asleep when he was terrified out of his mind.
A look at Sho, then at the bedroom convinced Aiba that it was time for bed; Sho looked about as tired as he felt, and the bed looked comfier than ever. He didn’t bother entertaining thoughts of changing into comfier clothes, he just stood up, grabbed Sho’s wrist and pulled him through to the bedroom, crawling under the covers when he reached the bed and indicating to Sho that he should do the same. Sho obliged, and Aiba was curled around him within seconds, ready to sleep. Sho resisted the urge to wiggle back out of bed to turn the television and various lights around his apartment off, instead forcing himself to wrap an arm around Aiba and close his eyes; he would worry about his electricity bill when he got it. Then he would force Aiba to pay some of it.
