In light of recent 'developments' concerning fansubbing, STORMY team sub is taking action, alongside other fansub groups.
We are referring to the continuous uploading of our subs to streaming sites - most notable of which are DRAMACRAZY and MYSOJU - and the online selling/peddling of subbed files, which include STORMY's subs.
STORMY team sub community
From now on, the STORMY team sub Livejournal community will have Moderated Membership. For new members who want to join, they would need approval by any of the maintainers before getting access. You'd have to agree first to our
Terms and follow the procedures stated there to join. JOINING ALONE is not enough. Agree to our Terms first, and STICK TO THEM.
For old members, we have deleted most of you (yes, manually, all 6900+ members here). If you can see
THIS POST, you won't need to rejoin. If you can't, you will need to re-apply.
Please keep in mind that approval and deletion will completely be in the maintainers' discretion.
Aibakaland
Presently, Aibakaland is also undergoing a continuous Memberlist mass cleanup, and the Subbed Sections will no longer be accessible to anyone and everyone. Similar to the VIP section, the same minimum posts count requirement shall apply.
As concession, we will now post MF links here, so no one on LJ would be obligated to sign up at Aibakaland for them.
For the "uninformed".
No one should earn money out of something done for free. The online sellers steal are actually stealing from you, earning from something you can get for free. The streaming sites earn money off advertising as they get more traffic, thanks to the uploaded dramas.
It has already reached the stage where, more than the legal aspects of online streaming, basic human etiquette is compromised.
Case in point:
What DramaCrazy does:
- Upload our subbed files to streaming EVEN with our express prohibition on the video NOT to upload.
- Embed their own logo on the video, when they did NOTHING to contribute to the subs.
- Delete comments from well-meaning supporters asking to take down the video.
- BAN the IP addresses of these supporters who persist.
- CUT OFF THE CREDITS part in the video, containing the prohibitions. That is already tantamount to 'tampering' with something that took us hours and hours and hours to work on.
- Worse, they get money from advertising brought on by the traffic to their site.
What we will do:
Dramas subbed by the team have always been released here in the comm, at Aibakaland, at D-Addicts,
jdramas, and granted permission at
Ourhour (by
bittersweet_bun),
asian_doramas (by
arimi_skywalker.
We are now pulling out of D-Addicts and
jdramas. When the drama season is over, perhaps we will reconsider. Don't hold your breath. As for the other two communities, if we find out the streamers steal from those sites, we'd be forced to do the same thing.
We are aware that this would not probably stop the streamers from continuing what they do, but we do what we could. All we asked was for them to respect our wishes and rules, but they turned a blind eye at every turn and spit in our faces. The same goes for the online peddlers of subs OF ANY fansubber, not just STORMY. Hopefully the people concerned would stop being entrepreneurial at fansubbers' expense. We DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO BAN IP ADDRESSES when it comes to it.
We have been lenient thus far, but there's always a point where we have to put our foot down. As much as we want everyone to enjoy what we work on, the channels other people are sharing them on aren't exactly what we had in mind. Hopefully, things will be better. But for now, we gotta do what we gotta do.
