ETA - Two new suggestions from the comments added into the pictures section!

Here's a question that was inspired by the discussion on my previous post - if Season 8 were ever made into a TV show, which actress should play Satsu? Or to put it another way, which real person does the comic character most resemble? (The answer may well inspire vids and/ ( Read more... )

Oops! I appear to have voted twice. Take one vote off Nakama Yukie (unless someone else owns up to voting for it before me.)

There's no problem: the first vote for Yukie was actually my own. :-) So we agree...

Thanks for voting!

Another possibility: Chiaki Kuriyama of Kill Bill fame. Anyone who can beat up Uma Thurman has to have at least some Slayer in her.

I second this suggestion. Fun poll!

I've added icons of Ayumi and Chiaki too. Thanks for the suggestions! :-)

Ha! That's so funny, I was thinking of this one actress I thought would fit the part, but had no clue what her name was. I click, and voila! It's #2, Ito Misaki.

However, I changed my voe to Devon Aki. Good list :)

Hm, on second thought, Ito is most likely a better actress...

You mean, we're supposed to take their acting skills into account too? Nobody told me that!
:-)

Although I voted for Yukie, I do think that second picture of Misaki bears a massive resemblance to the last picture of Satsu... so maybe she is the best choice.

(Incidentally, being a massive geek pedant stickler for accuracy, I put the Japanese actors with their surname first, personal name second; while Devon Aoki, being Japanese-American, was the other way around... Just to confuse people.)

I've been thinking (see, you're not the only one who can quote Adam) about Renee too, and how it's tricky because there don't seem to be a whole lot of interesting roles for young African-American (assuming Renee is indeed American) actresses in the movies I see. There seems to be a lot of typecasting going on. (To my shame, my initial reaction was "Hey, Indigo is pretty damn good in Weeds... wait a sec, she'd be playing Rona again.") A couple of suggestions though:
Shareeka Epps of Half Nelson (who apparently plays a character called Kendra in the upcoming Alien Vs Predator II, so hey, Slayer pedigree)
Meagan Good (I swear I'll get over D.E.B.S. one of these days)
Clare Hope-Ashitey of Children Of Men (OK, she's British, but James Marsters is American...)

Interesting. Very... interesting. I might do another poll for Renee later.

I'm not sure there's any real evidence about Renee's nationality. Since Leah is Scottish and Rowena possibly German, my first assumption was that she was French (since Renée is a French name) - but she doesn't have a silly accent, making that less likely.

Logic suggests that she'd actually be British in that case, since if she were American, why didn't she stay in the US instead of moving to the European base? Although the presence of Satsu kind of implies that changing continents isn't that uncommon for members of Team Slayer - and Simone seems to have ended up in Italy too. So maybe she is American. And 'Renee' without the acute accent sounds more like an African-American name than a Black British one.

I believe some people are asking the exact same thing about other Americans in that castle... ;-) But yeah, I could see her being British, even if her complete lack of comedy accent seems to indicate that she's supposed to be American. (She's most definitely not Caribbean, for instance.) Hell, maybe she's even actually African?

I kinda want to change my vote from Ito to Ayumi :)

I haven't felt 100% confident of Renee's ethnicity, let alone her nationality. She's dark complected, but never gave much thought to the idea that she's black. Plausible, I guess. Visibly she reminds me of a girl I dated whose ethnic roots were like caucasion-east Indian or caucasion-Pakistani. Or she could be hispanic. Or any other of number darker complected ethnic roots or combinations. Or, she could just be a compulsive tanner.

It would be an interesting casting poll, definitely :)

hi--i friended you today (Oct 24, 2010) because of this entry and a few others you've made about Buffy Season 8. i'm in love with those comics and have been a Buffy fan for over a decade. it seemed every time i googled something about season 8, an entry of yours would pop up, so i thought i'd friend you.

oh, and while it is years late, i am in love with Maggie Q on Nikita. while i dont think she'd make a good Satsu, she does have the kick-butt attitude and confidence down. plus, she seems like a strong enough actress to go toe-to-toe with Buffy.

Hi! Nice to see a new friend. :-)

(Coincidentally, last week I was looking at Google Analytics to see how people found my LJ, and seaching for S8 stuff was the primary reason. That and the DVD commentary transcripts I've occasionally done.)
