I recently had a thought about Dawn. In 'Real Me', she seemed to be amusingly and totally oblivious to the fact that Willow and Tara were in a relationship. By 'Once More With Feeling', she was well aware of it, although Buffy and Xander were both still trying to preserve her presumed innocence. "Buffy, it's okay. I do know about this stuff.

I think there are probably a lot of things that look really obvious to adults, but might go over the head of a 14-year old. (And vice-versa sometimes, of course.) And Buffy especially did seem to try and "preserve Dawn's innocence" for much longer than was quite reasonable, perhaps as a side-effect of the monks' spell making her generally protective.

These were characters I don't often write (Well, these days I don't often write at all, but you know what I mean) so it was quite fun trying to get their personalities right. Tara's definitely in her element here, and I wanted to show why Dawn so quickly came to think of her as a mother-figure.

Missing whispered exchange between Willow and Tara:
"But sweetie, can't we just tell her to look it up on the Internet? All that information... there's no reason we should have to have these birds-and-bees... or, um, birds-and-birds conversations anymore."
"Good idea, Willow. Just tell her to g-google lesbian and she'll find all the info she needs."
Willow thought about that. "I'll go talk to her," she said.

(Though I can actually imagine Willow carefully putting together a selected list of links and websites for Dawn; it's the sort of thing she'd enjoy. Though Tara might exercise veto power over some of the things Willow would think she should include...)
