Chapter Title: Whispers in the Dark
Author:
stormwolf10
Warnings: Some nudity, but no explicit sex. Just a drooling Doctor. ;-)
Summary: The Doctor's in for a shock when he finally finds Rose's room.
Disclaimer: I do not own any Doctor Who cannon characters.

Rose walked into the bedroom, finally warm and clean from the bath, sighing with relief as she towel-dried her hair. Relaxing in the warm water of the bath gave her some much-needed time to process all that had gone on. She had somewhat come to grips with the fact that this new Doctor was essentially the same as the original Doctor, but it didn't ease the pain of losing the original Doctor forever.

She regretted letting the original Doctor watch as she kissed this new Doctor, and anguished over the pain he must have felt. It was selfish of her. Even if he couldn't say it, she knew he loved her and it must have broken his two hearts to watch her kiss a man who looked identical to him, but they weren't his lips. And she didn't even say goodbye. Not that he gave her a chance, disappearing with Donna in the TARDIS while she was...busy.

Running a hand over her face with a sad sigh, Rose laid back on the bed and stared up at the ceiling, the image of the TARDIS disappearing for the final time running over and over in her mind. All that searching for the Doctor, all that work to be near him again, and it all ended again so suddenly, with her standing on the shore of Bad Wolf Bay again. God, she hated that place.

"Rose? I--" The Doctor slipped into the room and nearly tripped over his own feet as he suddenly found them rooted to the spot, his eyes drinking in what was before him. It was like a scene out of one of those romance novels he nicked from Donna once to see what was so fascinating about them. Rose lay on the bed, completely naked, the moon sliding over her skin like it had a mind of it's own and was trying to capture her in a perfect light just for him, her damp hair spread out and her eyes wide and...startled. Oh. Uh oh.

He gulped and tore his eyes away from her to try to protect her modesty, stammering, "Oh, s-sorry, I didn't know that you--"

Rose grabbed her robe and stood, wrapping it quickly around herself so the Doctor could stop looking like his head was going to explode. "It's...okay, Doctor. If you plan on living your life with me, you were bound to see me naked some time," she said, "You can look now. I'm covered."

The Doctor raked a hand through his untidy brown hair and looked again, the bright scarlet slowly fading from his cheeks as he chuckled nervously. "I was going to say I think I found your room. Um...hi," he said sheepishly, wiggling his fingers at her.

Walking over to him, Rose took his hands and led him to the bed, sitting him down and settling down next to him as he stripped off his blue suit jacket and tossed it aside, smoothing his burgundy shirt down. "So, what did dad say?" she asked.

"He wants me to leave if I don't intend on staying and making you happy," he replied matter-of-factly.

"And...do you?"

"Would I be here if I didn't?"

"Doctor..."

Sighing, the Doctor lifted Rose into his lap and wrapped his arms around her, making a soft noise of surprise at the back of his throat when he found the robe a lot thinner than he had expected. "Yes," he whispered into her ear, "Of course I do, Rose. I wouldn't dare waste this chance to grow old with you."

Suddenly, Rose slipped out of his embrace and stood in front of him. "Get undressed," she ordered with a grin, her tongue caught between her teeth.

"What?"

"Take off your clothes," she elaborated, slipping out of her robe and climbing into bed, pulling the covers over her to keep him from getting distracted from following orders.

Giving her a bewildered look, the Doctor leaned over and untied the laces of his trainers, kicking them and his socks over by his jacket. He stood and turned to Rose as he slid his pants and briefs down his long legs and stepped out of them while pulling his shirt over his head and tossing it aside. With Rose looking him up and down, he raised his hands and turned around in a circle. "Am I supposed to dance, too?" he asked incredulously, making her laugh.

"Oh, just come here," she ordered, lifting the blankets in invitation, which he took immediately, sliding under them until he lay on his side, pressed close to her.

"Rose, I haven't done this in a very long time," the Doctor whispered hoarsely, his breath catching as she slipped an arm around his waist and snuggled her naked body against his.

She responded by placing a soft kiss on his chest and smiling up at him. "Relax," she whispered back, "I...don't think I'm ready for that yet, anyway. I just wanted to feel you against me. Is that all right?"

The Doctor's nervousness ebbed away at her words, and he kissed the top of her head, gently caressing her side. "It's brilliant, actually," he replied as his fingertips swept over her soft skin, taking in the feel of her. It was like a dream he'd never dared to hope would be fulfilled. "I don't think I'm ready for that yet either, but this is...just brilliant."

They spent a few hours sharing a whispered conversation, punctuated with soft kisses and caresses, each speaking of their adventures until both of them felt their eyes growing heavy with weariness. Rose let her head drop from the hand she'd used to prop it up onto the pillow and eventually the Doctor did the same, nuzzling her hair as he settled fully into the mattress and closed his eyes.

"Doctor?"

"Hm?" he grunted sleepily.

"Will you be content with this life?"

"I think I could get used to this, yeah," he murmured in response, the corner of his mouth quirking in a crooked grin as he wrapped his arm tighter around her and drifted off to sleep.
