In my experience, I have met many a fundie, heck, I used to be one. I joined the dark side (meaning I left the fundie flock) and spent time observing them.
What I found was quite interesting. I find that how loud they spoke of their faith was inversely related to the strength of their faith. The character of Margulis, of Xenosaga fame, said it best when he said in the very first Xenosaga "The weaker they are, the louder they bark."
Ever notice how many fundies keep yelling about having to convert the masses? Or how much everyone needs to be saved? Now one should ask if they are trying to convince others with their hellfire and brimstone speeches, or if they are just trying to convince themselves. For the most part, they seek to convince themselves.
Which is too bad. I'd like to see them join the rest of us in the 21st century.
