So apparently the realtor sent out a letter stating that the landlord would be entering the apts to check smoke alarms. I never got said letter and came home on Saturday afternoon to find someone had been in my apt. Things were moved around on my counter and the hall light was on and I know I didn't leave it on.
I was like, well, fuck, someone knows I have cats now. I'm not allowed to have pets, but every person in the building has cats. I know that b/c my neighbor said "Don't let the cat out" when she was moving something out of her apt and the people downstairs always let their cat out and it roams the building and I see it sitting in their window when I'm parking. Also the people down the hall have one b/c I've heard it meowing and the people upstairs most likely have one because I hear it running all over the place.
So I was talking to my mom trying to figure out what it all meant and there was a knock on my door. The landlord was there. He told me they fixed the smoke alarm and someone would be coming to install something on the outlets near the sink. He gave me a proper name and I was like "well what does that do?" and he explained it to me, but I forget. Then he said we're not allowed to have pets and I do so he's taking my security deposit (buhbye $650) and calling the realtor and the issue will be addressed. I said "Everyone in this building has cats." He said, "I know, but that doesn't make it right and the issue will be addressed."
He didn't tell me to get rid of my cats and if I'm going to be evicted what would be the point of getting rid of them? So they're still in my apt. I was too shell shocked at the moment to ask any intelligent questions so I basically have no clue what's going to happen. I'm going to call them at the end of the week if I haven't heard anything. If they want me out, all they need to do is give me a date. I'm not going to fight it, I don't really care. I just don't like being in limbo not knowing what's going to happen.
My lease ends on the 31st of this month. Then it goes month to month. So it's not like there's any signed thing to break.
I'm not really sure where I'd go, but I have some options. I should probably start looking for apts. We'll see what happens though.
