Some of you may remember my mentioning that I was going to be away this weekend. Specifically, to a little dinky town called Petawawa ( halloween and pup-to-be content herein )
I had a pretty bad experience holding my first baby back when I babysat for this family. They'd just adopted a little girl (1-2 years old IIRC) and she WOULD NOT STOP crying all freaking night, whatever I would do. I suspect it's because she'd just made a gigantic leap, didn't know anyone or anything anymore, and she had separation issues. It's understandable since it had literally been a week or so since they'd come back with her. So I mean I didn't freak out too much over my ~abilities~ but I mean it did mark me a little bit. I'm always afraid I won't be able to make the crying stop if it starts. Not to mention the frail little body on top of it. But strangely enough I seemed to have soothing abilities with Zac when he was a baby, and no crisis happened when I held Mik, so I guess all things are good. They're not fussy babies either, which helps. Give 'em a finger to nurse and they'll be fine sucking on it for a while while Milk Mobile gets whatever she was doing done and gets ready for feeding. So all's good.
I really hope so. I'm pretty sure I'll slip up quite a few times with Mica coming out of my mouth instead of Praline (after all, I didn't really call my own name aloud much when I was a camp counsellor ;) but *crosses fingers* I really hope you're right and she won't enshrine Praline as this reincarnation of "her" dead dog. God.
No, not yet. I'm not a big fan of ebooks so I've been waiting for someone to offer it up on bookmooch but I have to buy some books for my sister/nephews for Christmas, and I have a gift card besides, so I'll make good use of it. I have a few titles in mind! :)
Yay! I've never been much for the letter format but it definitely grew on me, most especially because Ahern's got a great style. And great sense of humour. She has me alternating between smiling like an idiot and making sad faces in the train/bus/metro and it's just so nice.
Well I'm glad it worked out for you. I never did a lot of babysitting and usually they were older kids so I didn't have to do much. We could play a game or they would watch some tv. No biggy. Babies are a foreign object to me. I have little cousins but have never had to spend much time in the babysitting department. I don't know what to do with them. I don't know how they play. I don't know what they want when they cry... it freaks me out. Sure they are cute to hold (when they get a little bigger) and I love them but eek!
So many people don't see dogs as anything but an animal but they have personalities and quirks very much like a child. Cat too. So I think with the differences she'll start thinking more about Praline rather than Mica. Still that slip to call them the old name is always there. I've called my cat Jordasche (my old dog). I'm 30 and my dog died when I was 14. So it is always there.
Cool. I've only read one other book that was in a letter format. I can't remember what it was even but it was interesting though not great. So something that works will be nice.
I worked at a camp two summers and I always felt more comfortable with the younger kids, mainly because they didn't talk back and it's easier to drag them into a game :) But I did help teach ballet class a few years ago for a while so I'm at least good at disciplining the older kids. I help out sometimes at judo, too. But yeah, babies... it's like you don't want to break them haha. But honestly if they're not fussy it's usually pretty easy to figure out what they want. Diaper, food, warmth (and/or play)... the basics!
Hehe I actually called her Brownie yesterday when I was trying to scold her at one point. Let's just say she looks more like a Brownie than my sister's dog! (an orange/white jack russell) lol

*lol* I called my Sydney, Phoebe. Phoebe died this past summer and was her sister. It is like my mother always calling me my Aunt's name.
Cool! I can't wait for mine to arrive.
