I can't find any news of this anywhere (huh, suspicious, isn't it), but you'll all remember (or find out now, if you're new to my lj) that I live in the West Island of Montreal on a small island. If you know your Montreal geography, you'll probably know right off exactly which island I'm talking about. Or not. I asked several people in college if they knew where it was (they were West Islanders too) and they had no clue. Now, if I tell them about the nearest super-super-tiny town, they know what I'm talking about *facepalm*
There is only one bridge leading in and out of the island, with one lane for each direction and the middle third that alternates depending on traffic.
Well. They're making repairs to the bridge because the City investigated the bridge and said the parapet wasn't up to par. This will be ongoing until August (so they say).
;agaoperaitwnbaowhgAAAAGAJRIAMB!!
Why haven't they built a second bridge? Why isn't there a bridge instead of the ferry that links Laval to the island? I'm all for rustic. When it makes sense. This does not. Yesterday it took me one hour to get home from the train station instead of the usual breezy 20 minutes. I'm not usually very impatient when it comes to transportation. I'm happy to doze off or read in the bus. Or watch the scenery. There's no scenery when there are a bazillion cars siphoning off from five different roads to get onto a one-lane bridge. This makes no sense. Monsieur le Maire ou qui que ce soit qui s'occupe de ce dossier (s'il est même ouvert), un beau gros bravo.
In other news, I'm heading to the local library today. Yay for getting home super late.
In other other news, I had a "great" heart-to-heart with mum last night and this morning. She still doesn't get it. *facepalm*
I watched The Mummy and most of The Mummy Returns (en français, of course, I can't help that most of the movie-airing channels here are French) yesterday after work. I already knew Brendan Fraser was half-Canadian, but I had no clue he actually spoke French fluently (checked his IMDB profile). Super cool. And I found out the guy who plays Jonathan is Scottish. Neat. By the way, I can't help but adore the two movies. Dunno if the forthcoming third will be half as spectacular as the second. This whole journey started in Egypt, why go into Ancient China now? I'm kinda excited about the new movie (whose title is another case of the long-ass-unmemorisable, new Indiana Jones movie syndrome. Tomb of the Dragon Emperor -- I had to check because it fled my mind. Like now. Totally forgot it again) but I have some reservations. I'm sure Brendan will be great, but the guy who plays his son Alex who was awesome in Returns has been replaced, and Evelyn, his wife, is played by another actress than Rachel Weisz, who was fantastic in both movies.
Also, is it me or does Robert Pattinson speak with a General American English accent in the Twilight trailer? Admittedly I deal with too many accents on a daily basis (ahaha oh God yeah it's like the Tower of Babel here) so it's like accent overload. Anyone? Have I gone crazy?
Lastly, I think Twilight the movie might be more interesting than the book. Robert as Edward is very intense, whereas in the books he just comes across as a bleedin' statue of *fake fangirl* beauty omg. As for movie!Bella? She seems slightly better than the book, but just as blah. And this is from viewing the trailer weeks ago.
P.S. When you start singing "clap clap the keyboard goes" in your head, there is something fundamentally wrong with your current situation. That's right, you're bored! Luckily in half an hour I go to the reception room and do more idling (the phone rings once every blue moon on the lunch hour... okay, more often)
