Much New Year Stuff.

My New Year was full of booze and food, warming my belly considerably, as it was a pretty cold night on the first. I saw my young cousins and have found François's weak spot... or rather, something that really calms him down. He likes me to brush my fingers over his back. Seeing his eyes become glazed was phenomenal, as he's a "turbulent" kid apparently, according to my aunt. I have talked about my cousins before, but

François and Marjorie are adopted Russian kids. François was about six when they were adopted. He and Marjorie weren't brother and sister to begin with, so getting used to one another was quite a business. I don't think they're even used to each other yet.

Anyway, my aunt and uncle have never really been the children type of adults. My aunt used to complain that we (my older cousins and my sisters and I) were noisy when all we did was go to my grandparents's living room to play or watch movies between dishes, especially during the holidays. During meals we were normal-noisy and minded our own businesses. You see these kids bothering everyone in movies and stuff? We were the complete opposite. So. My aunt hates kids with a passion, and my uncle's only real passion is wine (or so I think haha). I have no clue why they ever travelled to Russia to get these kids, but I'm pretty damn happy because I think the only moments of genuine happiness they get is when their older cousins from our side of the family come. I mean, my aunt and uncle dump them on us, and sure I pretty much hate this attitude, but spending time with François and Marjorie makes up for the hatred I have of their "parentals".
I also spent some quality time with Marjorie playing foosball against one another and against François, who's pretty good might I say :D I daresay I sucked royally on the first haha. Might be all the booze that acted up at that moment. I didn't feel tipsy at all, nor pissed in the least. I was... happy. Happy to be with my cousins, too :D M and I also made necklaces and a belt for her, which was fun but the pieces kept unhooking, but blah.

I didn't get to spend much time with the cousins my age. Léandre was mostly with his girlfriend, and Arielle spent time with youngest non-adopted cousin Julien and some with Marjorie if I'm not mistaken.

For the first time I was allowed at the grown-ups' table. I really wanted to be with my sister (probably my only link to sanity in this family besides my parents). I spent most of the evening with her and her boyfriend Sébastien, who must have been scared arseless from all the raucous laughter and loud talk and booze offers from Mononc' Guy and Sylvain (the uncle I was talking about before) and the general hugeness of my dad's side of the family (they are six kids, I think). But he's still alive, thank goodness haha.

Anyway, I must have drunk maybe two bottles of wine in total, not counting the two glasses of sparkling liquor. One of my uncles (I forget who) was insane by the end of the night: he wanted to offer me wine with my dessert. ???!!! WTF?

That was my January 1st in a nutshell.

Today I watched the part of The Patriot that I had set to tape during our stay up north. Yes, only part, because, stupid as I am, there was only one hour left to the tape when I left it in the VCR. So, I've got the movie until after the part where Benjamin meets Tavington when he frees his militiamen.

family, new year
