Alright, now that I've read this again at NOT seven in the morning and was able to understand what it actually means.
My college choice was very limited chosen for me. My first choice was Drexel, but I got lucky in the respect that I didn't get accepted into the one that my parents chose for me. Luckily the co-op system was a strong enough of an influence.
And, if it makes you feel any better, or at least not so lonely, my summer was a lot more uneventful than any of my others. To put it simply, I worked my last summer in high school, 40 hours a week at BK. Granted, I got lots of monies out of it, but I had little to no human contact. I saw Allison, maybe twice or thrice a month, and that was about it.
Distance is no longer a factor in this day and age. I know for a fact you use only macs, and I know for a fact that macs have some of the most powerful peripheral camera equipment. Skype is basically phone++ in this day and age. And you can't lose contact with me. As long as you are within distance of working internets, I will always technically be right in front of you.
I never leave the internet, it truly is my home.
After all, what intelligent thinking home would take me in. =P
But the simple truth and matter is, you were born on a train. You were constantly moving around, never staying at one place too long, and the place that you stay the longest, and the latest, will always hold the most emotion for you.
In all truthfulness, I never stayed in the same place either. But my situation is far on a lesser scale than yours.
So anyways, don't ever rule out the possibility of transferring around, especially to a school you were accepted in previously, as long as you keep a good GPA, you shouldn't have to worry TOO much.
The only thing you should be worried about finding for something like that is financial aid. But you're an engineer, no doubt you'll pay off your loans soon enough, with proper saving and the like.
Personally, I plan on living in a shitty/cheap apartment, spending money only on necessities (internet obviously being one of those) and save up as much money as possible until I feel it necessary to move somewhere decent.
So anyways the only factor that distance plays is being able to physically go out and do something. Mystical magical internets have made it so that you can do anything with anyone that one can normally do while just sitting around someone else's house.
I've had many a battle with the original Smash Bros with random people that I would just meet on LUElinks. It's fun times. Also, 3 player internet'd Secret of Mana for the SNES is WAAAAAAY better than just playing by yourself.
Always just keep in mind, as long as this technology flows through our veins, you'll never be alone. You'll have no reason to think that you're really 'seperated' from anybody.
Maybe I just have the luxury of being able to stay on the internet all the time, but it might just be attributed to that I have yet to make any real friends at Drexel. I mostly hang out with Randy and Jenell and such, people that graduated before me, but I knew them.
So I gave up making real friends for the sake of being on the internet. Sounds like a typical LUEser.
I agree with you here. As long as we have 'the magical mystical internets', it's hard to loose contact. The issue, of course, being that physical contact is still slightly tricky.
It's moreso the difference between what I had planned and what really happened. What I had planned was that I'd go to the college of my choice, and be able to hang out with HS friends over summer/winter. See them graduate, etc etc. You get where that's going. What did happen is obviously very different, and I'm irked that said difference was caused by something pretty stupid.
On the note of transferring- It's something I've certainly considered, but I've found myself running into some road blocks. For one, PSU does not (apparently) accept AE/ME transfers. The second issue being that my parents are opposed to it, even if I could transfer. As I said, they do not understand why I don't like AZ. Unless I got a full scholarship (and at 22k out of state, that's unlikely), they would likely not allow me to transfer.
But the simple truth and matter is, you were born on a train. You were constantly moving around, never staying at one place too long, and the place that you stay the longest, and the latest, will always hold the most emotion for you. ain't it the truth.
Fizikul cohntakt? What's that? I haven't felt another person's flesh since ages ago.
That's why you should totally come to Drexel.
Granted, Drexel is twice as much as the number that you said, so that's clearly not an option.
And I find it extremely retarded that a college would not accept another college's credits. TRES annoying. I've seen it before, unfortunately, not personally, luckily.
And I hold you parents against the whole U of A thing. I'm not very knowledgeable on them, but I know that PSU has one of the greatest Engineering programs in the country. I know because my parents kept trying to get me to apply there.
If you want to go for pure intensity, you could always try Lehigh. To get in is ludicrous, but it's cheaper (IIRC) and only an hour away from home.
Ummm.... I don't know of any other colleges in the area. I know that York has an engineering department. Not a very good one, but one no less I think it's 11k there. At least, I remember being offered a free ride, and that was how much it was. Wilkes is decent from what I remember, but that's around the pricy. 35k I think. Probably more for out of state.
But you shouldn't aim for a single scholarship. I'm sure you can rack up 22k if you apply for every scholarship you come across.
Oh, on a better idea, you might be able to convince SOMETHING, if you attempt to go to Mountain Top or nearby for an internship.
As for your parents not understanding why you don't like AZ, that's not something they CAN understand. The only reason they could understand is IFF they were you.
Clearly, they're not. So there's only a limit to how much they can know about your psyche.
This is how punk rock was formed.
I'm sorry, what was the subject?
Anyways, I suppose another alternative is that you can become so good at guitar within the next few months that you can become famous and visit whenever you want. I'm sure it would be a lot more tolerable than listening to Breaking Benjamin.
So I keep getting off topic, so clearly, I have nothing else relevant to add. I just hope it'll all settle out eventually. I'm sure things'll be fine. Even if you don't ever get to see people, you can just be like me. Of course, becoming me is the worst case scenario in ANY situation whatsoever. So avoid that.
Eh, I'm sure things'll be fine. Just keep your options open, keep an ear out for any hopeful scholarships (If you're thinking you want to follow through), and most of all, bullshit yourself to any college that you might transfer to. Talk to advisors. Get a worm in their ear, see if there's any possibility that they would accept credits for you, especially engineering credits (trust me, a 10 minute phone call can have a LOT more of an impact than looking at their website for 10 seconds. It's always worth a shot. The worst that can happen is they'll tell you no.)
Thanks for the suggestions mate. I'm certainly not going to just drop it.
My understanding with PSU isn't that they don't accept the credits, it's that they don't accept AE/ME transfers at all. As in, it's not even an option on the application. Can't tell ya why, but that's my understanding.

So anyways. Cool. I'm done.
