Six months after I finally learned to knit, I am still enjoying the hobby very much. (I have also learned that knitting can take over my world and become a Lifestyle. Hmmm. I have knitting spots all over the house...projects for "home" and "away"...own three times as many knitting needles as I do pieces of silverware...but I think it's still a Hobby. I can walk away any time. Really.)
I'm not sure what I was thinking when I decided that knitting some blankets would be a good idea, though. One blanket, sure -- never know if a knitting project will be good until one tries it, after all -- but...three? Granted, there WAS a yarn sale going on...and several sorts of yarn which were normally Rather Expensive were available at half price...but...enough yarn for three blankets is a LOT of yarn.
I started the first blanket about a month ago. It is my Mate's official Christmas Present. (It is a perfect present for him! Handmade, something he will use, and not something he will make for himself.) I am a little over 1/4 of the way done, so far; I am measuring progress by how much of the purchased yarn I have used. It is taking a VERY LONG TIME...which I sort of expected. Still wish it would go a little faster...
Other projects I have started (and completed!) since I began the Big Fuzzy Blanket include two very long and warm scarves (one for each of my children, to keep them warm through the cold Ohio country winters, in colors they chose), a pair of beautifully colored mitts for a friend's birthday present, and a square. Yes, a square. When I get enough of them made, I will join them together to make -- guess what?
A blanket.
