Hairspray On The Beach

Thursday the 9th was sunny. I found my friend Scott online and he mentioned that he and Rich would be heading over to Sandy Hook. I thought I’d join them. I went, but I don’t think they ever made it, because I didn’t run across them. The beach isn’t that big, and not being a weekend, it wasn’t as crowded. The Gunnison parking lot though was surprisingly more packed than I had thought it would be. I did run across Alex and Jerry (from a past party of nkdmango), and Hoboken Jason.

Most of my day (after lunch) was spent hanging out with someone new. I met David in the water. He was a cute guy with an inked back, and multiple piercings--kind of hard to miss. The ocean was pretty rough, but the water was warmer than it had been on Sunday and we were in for quite a while, dodging the waves. They weren’t breaking well, so we didn’t ride them.

I left the beach about 5:30. The sun had gone behind a cloud and it was pretty breezy. Got home, showered, and immediately got back in the car to head over to the movie theatre near Ikea to see Hairspray. Robert and David came with me and Patrick.

The movie was just as fun as the broadway production. I was constantly bopping my feet around on the bar in front of me, keeping time with the music. It’s definitely a feel-good movie.

I didn’t care for Travolta as Edna. He seemed to be trying to do a Cher impersonation the whole time. Even though he was large, they gave him a waist to separate him into two parts. I seem to remember tentlike actors.

Tracy did an excellent job and had a very pretty face. Link’s blue eyes demanded attention. Queen made an excellent Motormouth. Corny was younger than expected but extra cuteness never hurt. Curtis Holbrook played Brad (sock stuffed in pants). We had just finished seeing him live in Xanadu. The Von Tussles looked very much like I remember them from the original movie. I still find Michelle very attractive. It was a very fun movie and I’ll probably end up owning it (along with Dreamgirls) at some point.
