Unexpected Interview

So, I've decided to go into business for myself and start a factory....

...that would be a snot factory...

I have contracted Hubby's cold, but it's not as bad as when he had it.  Still it has sapped all my energy and I spend the majority of last night awake due to nose issues.

So at 11:30am when the first company that I tested for calls me and wakes me up for an interview today at 2pm, I tried to sound like I had my wits about me and that I wasn't in bed.  Not sure how successful I was about that.

So I made myself get up, dressed, and left the house for this interview.  I go there about 10 min early and the waiting room was so packed with people waiting to test or to interview that there were no more chairs left and several people just standing around.  They finally took us, and by us I mean the other 11 people there for the same 2 pm interview, back into a conference room that was also not big enough for us.  All the chairs to the table were taken, plus two chairs they had in the corner, and they still had to bring in 2 more chairs so that the interviewing people could sit.

Group interview.  Yeah, all kinds of fun that was.  We each had to tell the people if and what kind of call center experience we have had, and whatever customer service experience we had.  Then we had to tell them why they should hire us, as in me, if this was the only job in town, why they should pick me.

Then they explained about the position.  It's totally inbound customer service for roadside assistance for several car companies.  That means they need to staff for 24/7/365.  They have start times for every hour from 6 am to 3 pm.  The environment seems cool, friendly, and fun.  Simple job that I could do and have fun while doing it.  But of course there's a downside.

It starts at $8.00 an hour.  You get 50 cents increase at the end of your two week training, 90 day probation, and every 3 months afterward up until you've been there for 2 years.  So at the end of the 2 years, you get $13 an hour.  That's nice.  I need that money now, not in 2 years.  I wouldn't even be making $10 an hour, which is my utmost minimum until 9 months from now.  This royally sucks.

This is the only solid job prospect I've had.  Sent out a ton of resumes, but there are few jobs and lots of people laid off.  I'm supposed to, hopefully, find out about this other job with all the uber testing and bullshit questions by Friday or early next week.  I'm supposed to call the place I interviewed with today tomorrow morning to find out if they want me.  Training for that job doesn't start until March 30.  I'm thinking that if they want me, I will accept the position with the hopes that I can find something better before I have to start working.  If I can't, at least it's something.
