Help with words?
Today I saw a sight I had never seen before. In the northwest sky, I saw a rainbow. Only it wasn't a rainbow. It was a vertical column of multi-colored light. It was clearly the same sort of phenomenon as a rainbow, the same spectrum, etc., but unbent. When I took off my sunglasses, it was harder to make out, because the sky was so bright with sun, but it was definitely there...I almost got in a wreck a few times, I was enchanted with this thing. What should I call it? A rainbar sounds somehow too prosaic...
