this weekend was a very welcome break from normal life. the head of our church elder board decided that he was going to take over the service on sunday, so i just slept in. yep, that's right, i skipped church. hooray, it felt so good! this means that we actually had an entire weekend free of obligation.
saturday we went to see shrek 3 with laura and phil, then went back to their place to grill marlin steaks with roasted lemons and vidalia onions. mmm. i'd never had marlin before. one of those foods that is literally like chicken in both taste and texture. not sure i liked having fish with that texture, but it tasted pretty good nonetheless. i had also suggested sprinkling some paprika on a few lemon halves and grilling those to squeeze over the fish, and that was double yummy. if you've never grilled a citrus fruit, i highly recommend it.
sunday we spent most of the day just kind of sitting around which was lovely. around 6 we went over to george's on nicollett island for delicious food (gumbo, sweet potato and mango soup, six different kinds of cheese from surdyk's, black bean and cous cous salad) and drunkening. ran into someone who graduated from high school with aaron, which was interesting. also met someone who seems to think that couples are horrible, all marriages are doomed, and everyone is fat. and not in a good way. what a bitter person.
then yesterday we actually cleaned our apartment (if you pretend that the bedroom isn't really part of the apartment) and had people over for a short time in the afternoon to play a bit of wii. then we went out to dinner at granite city and came back in time to watch the history of star wars on the history channel. very relaxing weekend, and we both caught up on some much needed sleep.
in health news, i'm now completely healthy (no more cold or kidney infection) save for my right pinky toe which i broke in half on wednesday in my desperate attempt to turn the volume up on the tv before LOST started. so i'm limping everywhere now and my foot is purple and green. nice. thankfully i was able to ice it and keep it elevated over the holiday weekend so it doesn't really hurt anymore unless i'm pulling on it in order to redo the cloth tape that's holding it in place.
and now it's raining. thank goodness i closed the windows before i left this morning.
