We were walking along the cliff trail today towards Hannam's Cove at the end of the island. It was hot, and the sun was refelcting off the stillest, calmest water I've ever seen. There was this weird noise, though, every so often, like gusting breath. When we got out of the trees, we looked out over the water and saw a minke whale and her calf just drifting on the surface about two hundred yard out. Then another two whales swam into the bay. So we sat on the boardwalk in sun, swinging our legs out over the cliff, and listened to the whales breathing.
