Arrived early to work on Tuesday, did my premise check and nothing was amiss. Did my paperwork and opening inventory, did the computer entries, then went out for a smoke and saw a truck parked in back of our store. OK, no prob, people leave their cars in our lot all the time, be it for breakdowns, carpooling etc

Planting schedules around here are an odd reversal. Summer is the inhospitable season, especially for people who don't have real land that could soak up a lot of water, Winter is the season to crave for its short days that might let onions grow to full size without setting seed too soon. Assuming the wind doesn't just tear the whole thing up.
I think every climate has its own difficulties. I spent much of the summer envying people who can grow annual herbs without having to chase after them daily crying "no, don't go to seed, not yet! not yet!". But I'm sure a week farther North and I'd be begging for boring dry heat again.

Wish we could have dry heat here. We are pummelled all summer with oppressively hot and humid conditions, great for the green life but still hard to deal with when one is trying to breathe in air that is so thick, it can be cut and sliced.
And let us not speak of winter. We got off lucky in February with only 4 feet of snow in a week's time. My hometown area was blessed with 8 feet in that week and points north of home received from 12 to 14 feet, no lie. In a way it was awesome, the majesty of it all, but still, it was *ahem* a royal pain in the ass. We actually didnt know where to PUT the snow that we tried to plow out of our driveways!!
So as you can figure, lots of growing is done indoors from Oct thru May.
